Wisteria vine

I asked this question in another thread I was tagging onto but did not get any clarification so for the sake of keeping it from getting lost in someone else p&s thread I started my own. I got a ton of wisteria vine which will make some nice branches for Waldo in his new enclosure but wanted to make sure it was ok to use. I know the flower and leaves are poisonous but this is just the vine. I am drying it out right now but I cannot fit it inside my oven as they are too long so would spraying them with bleach give the sme effect as far as sterilization and will they indeed be ok to use?

All you really have to do to sterilize the vine is put it in the freezer or a bathtub full of boiling water. Or instead you can put it in a bucket or bin of ice. But make sure you remove all loose bark or sharp knobs.

I am going to try and stuff them in my oven at about 400 for 30 minutes. That should do it as long as the vines themselves are not poisonous

Ok well cooking them did not work. We have a gallery series double oven in the wall, so the space is a little smaller than a regular oven. I was able to get one in there but about caught it in fire

So I am going to spray a bleach solution on them

Anyone have any input to the toxicity of just the vine. I think it should be fine but would like to hear from someone that uses them.

Haha, that sucks. If you want to bake them 150-200 degrees for an hour is good.

Thanks I can't do that either, it seems that no matter what a small peice of vine touches the burner and it starts smoking.....not to mention my partner thinks I am crazy, of course we have been together for 20 years, 21 this June so me being crazy is nothing new to her.....LOL

I did soak them in my bath tub with half bleach, half water overnight then soaked again in fresh water, so hoping that will work. My biggest concern is that no matter what the vine would be toxic. I would not think so but this kind of stuff is not my forte.

Just wanted to update this thread to say I put them in after making my last post and no problems. They are great vines too. Luckily I have access to a ton if it :)
