Witness my Plant killing skills

Don't give up on it yet.
Mine have done this and recovered.
It is most likely due to re-potting and environment change.
Use the dead leaves in your pygmy enclosures!;)

I spoke too soon about gnats. I have gnats pestering me today, or fruitflies.. I can't tell :p not many, but enough to annoy me by flying in my face across the room.

I bought a 6 ft tall Braided money tree (pachira Aquatica) that I am going to prune down to 3 3/4 tall to put in there last night. I repotted that and am goign to let it sit for a few days to see if it goes into shock before trimming it. Norman already likes climbing on it. It has some sticky sap from damaged stems I am concerned about, but Ill make sure to wash that off when I wash the leaves. I am also goign to try to set up the dripper to avoid dripping into the pot.

I agree. I broke off the dead leaves from the trunk and new stems generated soon after.

And brad, You are once again, so Wise!! ;) and creative!

Glass of apple vinegar. Make a funnel with some paper into the shape of a cone and cut it so the smaller tip sits right above the fluid line. tape the rest to the side of the glass. They can go in but cant get out. I do this is the summer.. or a glass of fruity wine works good too. Or you can use real fruit I suppose and perhaps salvage them as food for a cham? (not sure since they would be considered WC).

And I thought you said braided MONKEY tree... I was gonna ask what that looked like ;)

I'm sorry to tell you this but the "braided money tree" is not considered a safe plant for chameleons.:(

I was told at garden centers that yellow leaves indicate to much water and brown means not enough water/light. Not sure if that is true.

Are you kidding me? I looked for an hour on here if it was considered safe. I found this thread on here https://www.chameleonforums.com/cant-find-any-info-340/

I even did some google searches from my blackberry once I got there.

DAMN IT. It wasnt on any of the Do not put this with your chameleon lists.

Guess I just bought a HUGE plant for him to sit on when he is out of his cage, supervised.... crap.

I did find it on the FDA list.. but I find it hard to trust the FDA list, when the citation against the PAchira Aquatica is dated in YEAR: 1957

There is an australian list I found that lists it as very low risk to animals and humans. -6 on their scale.

I will not put it in with him.. but what the hell. None of the nurseries around here have any ficus or hibiscus and they cannot tell me why :p. And I dont have anythign to hang a pothos from. :p I tried to rig soethign, but it ... makes the door hard to open.

Hey Im with ya..Im In TN (from IL btw, Peoria), and they dont carry Ficus here either. Hibiscus Im told by Home Depot, only comes in late fall.

Schefflera is a yellow and green leaved plant though so Iw ouldnt put much stock in yellow meaning over watering..

My scheff did the same thing once. The problem was i took it out side from my apartment to my car (4 yards) in the winter. It don't take much to kill the leaves on one of these. I would trim it and see if any new leaves start to shoot out. After mine quit dropping leaves it came back stronger than ever.

I dont know, I just thought that maybe this could be your problem as well since you just got it a week ago. Took mine about a week to look like that as well.

I am betting this was the problem. it was mid to low 40's when I repotted it.

I trimmed a lot off it, and am removign the rest today. Norman seems to like the bare limbs anyhow for some really weird reason.

BEHOLD! The bucket O' sticks

This is the Schefflera after getting all the dried up leaves and the icky dark brown rubbery parts off it. There were actually green leaves down near the bottom just over the rocks. Well, there still are green leaves :p
