Won't eat roaches

I have a 6 month old panther that isn't eating roaches. He has eaten them before but I've been giving the roaches to him more often because I'd like to get him off crickets, which he loves. For the last 2 days he only had 2 roaches. When I got home today from work I gave him a couple of superworms to hold him over till tomorrow. Has anyone have this happen to them?

Crickets basically move nonstop so it gets a chams feeding response going. Lots of roaches just kind of sit there and move in small spurts. When my guy gets picky about his roaches I put them directly on the screen up high. They scurry away, and he shoots at them almost immediately.

You could make a feeding cup that makes the roaches more visible. You can take a milk jug, 2 liter pop bottle or something similar. Cut a large hole in one side and use some screen on the inside. Hang it high in the cage. The roaches will climb on the screen and be more appealing to your cham.

mine veileds ever eat roaches I have try with dubia and lateralis that moves faster but they simply ignore it. i have also try to leave only roaches in the cage for days but they don't want eat it. no way.

That's what I have. I appreciate all the responses. I think he is just being difficult. Maybe he will take the roaches once in a while. Here is a pic of the feeder cups I have. The top one is for the crickets and the bottom one is for roaches and super worms.

You could do another one similar to the one you have for the crickets for the dubia. As long as the screen reaches the bottom where they can reach it they will climb it and be more active than just in the bottom of a cup. I rarely see my cam eat the ones that are hanging out in the bottom but he always takes the ones that are climbing the screen part. I prefer a milk jug or something with a flat bottom so that its easier to get the screen all the way to the bottom. You could make one and put both crickets and roaches in at the same time.

I think I will do that. I think this 1 litter bottle is getting to small for him now anyway. Thanks for the advise.

What is your entire prey list? If you are just feeding roaches and super worms he will most likely get bored. I feed, two types of roaches, stick insects, occasionally crickets, isopods, super worms, black soldier flies and their larvae, wax worms occasionally and their moths, silkworms, and occasionally hornworms.

Wow, impressive. That might be it as well. Besides the roaches and superworms, I give him crickets. I was thinking of getting some silkworms because I have loads of mulberry trees in my backyard. They grow like weeds over here. I'll have to get a better prey list going, I guess. Thanks.
