Wood treatment

Hello, so I'm going to need to treat the wood for my cham's new set up. what should I use?
If someone could be really specific that would be great as I really have no clue what I'm doing :/

What I did was give the wood a quick wash, and scrapped the extra bark off so there wasnt any loose pieces, I then put it in the oven for 10-20 minutes on 350F. I've also heard of another method where you can use bleach. Hope this helps

Sorry, I meant like a varnish or sealant I can coat my complete set up in. to make it waterproof, so the wood won't get mildew from the moisture.

I'd use a green certified sealer that does not contain VOC's. VOC's are bad and continue to outgass from the sealer for months. The fumes can make your chameleon sick or for long term exposure death can result.

I used high gloss and satin gloss behr paint. Behr paint is low VOC, I sealed the cabinet top and bottom of cage with sparurethane sealer. The top and sides I just have painted no sealer.

old thread but would the varnish need to be reapplied every few years or should it be okay?
