Worked a little on his “outside time” cage today

It was a hot day in South Florida!

Due to some things that came up last minute I wasn’t able to start working on his outside cage in the early morning like I wanted to. I still managed to line the insides of the cage with window screen and tape the cage so I can spray paint the screen black tomorrow. The tape part took me forever lol. I will then be covering all the wood in the cage with some marine grade varnish to protect it from the weather. Man I can’t wait for it to be ready. My boy is gonna love it!

That cage look awesome I’m sure your Cham will love it! Did you build that from scratch?

Not really. I bought the frame off craigslist but it needed some reinforcements. They used staples to put it together and it wasn’t doing a good job at holding all the pieces together. Also the screen it came with was ripped at several places. So I replaced the staples with wood screws and added a tough screen to protect my cham from raccoons and then lined it with some window screen on the inside to keep bugs out/in. Hopefully I’ll be done by tomorrow!

Ah i see, it seems like a great idea and cool cage, I wish I had something like that!

So I spray painted the mesh with black last night and it’s craaazy how much nicer it looks! Applied the first coating of weatherproofing sealer to the wood today and the tint that it has to it also gabe the cage a really nice touch!

Only problem I’m having now is that I didn’t think about what I would do with the inside part of the wood, where the mesh is stapled. I can’t really brush over it with this stuff as the mesh is in the way. This is gonna be out in the sun and rain 24/7 so it really needs to be protected. Any advice on how to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated! :)

Only thing i can think is to tape along it on each side and spray seal it. Have to let it air out longer. But thats about best u can do with out taking it apart.

No Problem hope it works for you. They make a polyurethane water base spray that is safe and dont take as long to dry and vapors to go away.
