i seem to be having a hard time getting worms to my home in florida quick enough (to avoid them dying due to heat).

anyone know of any florida worm breeders? specifically silkworms and hornworms. that would really help.

thanks.

yes, Coastal Silkworms, they are in Jacksonville. Check out their website. They sell silks, horns, phoenix worms... I have been buying from them for a couple of years and they are great. Unfortunately, they have been out of both horns and silks for over a week now and have not been answering the phone. Not sure what is going on!!!

just might consider that.. any idea on approx how long it takes to raise them from eggs to about 1"?

For silkworms no idea, my silk colony just died off on me. pretty pissed.

my hornworms take about 2 weeks to get to a decent size.

and those I breed. :)

well today i got 50-60 (more like 100) silkworms from mulberry farms. i havent purchased hornworms yet.

i just finished cleaning the cup out and it was pretty dirty (shipped out monday i got it thursday)... not to mention there was a huge silk ball so i had to pick out every worm one by one out the ball. finally i put the cup upside down in a fridge that is set on highest temp so they dont freeze.

i am guessing in the morn the bottom of the cap should be full of crap rather than the food.

what is grasserie? is that the silkball?

grasserie is a disease. it turns silkworms to mush. and it smells bad.

Yea, the silk is the one thing i hate about silkworms, but they area great staple feeder, so im going to redo my colony, again, in a week or so.

ive got hornworms pupating right now (worms that are in cocoons to turn into moths) so hopefully in the next week or so il have moths to lay eggs.

im learning more and more.. can my cham choke on the silk?

when i first put the silkworm in the cage my cham was freaked out.

next thing i see in the silk worm bunji jump from the branch and dangled from silk.

i wasnt prepared to see that happen.

i dont know who was more shocked the cham or me lol

but he went in for the kill instantly when he seen all that action.
