hello everyone,
this is my first post on the forums, I've been doing a lot of research of chameleons for the past 2 months and I've learned the basics of caring for my chameleon. anyways i just got him yesterday and put him in his new enclosure, he seemed to like it and i hand fed him a cricket and he seemed to like that too. his sleep schedule is from 3pm - 3am i was wondering if i can change this to work around my schedule or no? and he was crawling at the top of the reptibreeze last night right under the uvb light is this bad for him? also he is sleeping a lot he has been sleeping since last night and hes just hanging from the top of the cage i haven't seen him drink or eat I'm kinda worried about him any advice would be greatly appreciated!! thanks in advance

very cute, i think as long as he gets the right type of light and enough hours of light whatever schedule works for you he will adapt to.
enclosure looks good.
make sure the screen is not too hot for him.
you just can't keep them from climbing there just make it safe.

good luck with him,

Honestly, you CAN keep them from climbing on the screen, but it isn't easy. My little guy was doing this a lot in the first 1-2 weeks I had him and since I had seen him fall 2 times while doing it, I wanted to stop it. So, I started by making a negative association with climbing on the top screen, which was being sprayed with water. He climbed or started to reach for the top screen, he got sprayed. I did this for about 2-3 days ALONG with increasing the amount of foliage available and providing some higher climbs. It's now going into week 4 and I have yet to see him climb on the cage since these changes were made.

It will not hurt him to hang under the uvb as they really do not produce much heat if any. They seem to like to do that when young. Sleeping during the day is not a normal thing and if after a few days, if he is still doing so, you may have other issues(illness) going on. 3-3 is not a normal sleep schedule. Chameleons usually start settling in to sleep in the early evening hours or late late afternoon during the winter when it gets dark outside early. Make sure you have no lights in the cage at night or on in the room. If you have a tv or computer that gives off light, you can cover the cage with the sheet.

My cages in my room have 3 sides permanently covered, along with removable covers I made for the doors/top at night because I am awake for several hours after their lights go off. My little guy has started to hunker down in the same spot each night about an hour or so before I turn his lights off.

I'm going to name him Jax, he seems to be doing okay now he is awake and alert, i saw him drink water from a leaf but have yet to see him eat out of the feeder cup. He seems to really like the uvb bulb as he climbs on top of the screen under the uvb, but sure to avoid the heat lamp spot. should i suspend my lights? he is an ambilobe Panther, at 3 months old.

thanks for the support and advice guys!

Also i cant seem to keep the humidity up in my cage what would you suggest?
