ive been looking at panther chams. I never knew they went for so much. 400 to 600 bucks?
wow prices.

Check the site sponsors, they usually price theirs at $200-250. The Chameleon Company usually has something for under $200, but you have to check kingsnake.com or email them for pics/prices. I just checked a few sponsors and some have a few for under $200, then others have them for the average - $250-275.
Also, if you opt to buy a cross-locale panther they will usually sell for less. If you don't care to breed ever and just want a pet, then it doesn't matter - you still get a gorgeous panther and for less. You may have to check faunaclassifieds.com and kingsnake.com to find them for sale. A couple sponsors sell crosses as well, but they may not have them right now.

It all depends on what you want sure there are some panthers out there for 150-200 bucks an some good animals but at the same time theres panthers out there that are cheap an arnt what there poseta be an who knows what some of them really will be..id say 400-600 for a rarer locals is worth it again imho your goin to get what you paid for...
I don't see why everyone say cross locales sell less. We as members may think for some reason they are less desirable, but by looking at market prices for over year now I find that completely false. Where are these cheap cross locales posted? Im not interested in buying them but I always see people explain them as cheaper. Where though? Kammers are High, Scremeleons are high, these animals are priced just like any other panther. Those Faly Crosses all sold way beyond your typical ambilobe.

Exactly, that is not by any means on the cheap spectrum.
Do you know how much just an ambilobe is off hand from your seller?

Exactly !! Crosses ain't cheap at all iv never seen a CHEAP cross they always seem to be the same price

LLL Reptile has crosses.... I just got a little Sam-Bilobe the last part of Nov.
But....... You gotta look often & act quick! When I saw mine on a Mon. They were gone by Tues. nite! They had some Ambanja-Ambilobe crosses that lasted a week or 2 but they are gone now. For a long time all thier Panthers were 150 & shipping they are all 199 & shipping now. They dont say where they are from & cant see the parents so if you want a specific blood line you will pay for it. Even then its a roll of the dice to what he or she will look like, but your odds are better. The cham in my avatar came from Primo at the Chameleon Habitat. I can hardly wait to see my new little guys colors. What ever he looks like ....I dont really care... He is awsome to me! & I didnt pay up the Wazoo for him

I bought my Faly cross for $150, and my adult female cross for $125. I certainly think that's cheaper than a typical Ambilobe! You usually find them cheaper from back-yard breeders, (although my male was from a large breeder), who don't have the reputation of someone like Screameleons to justify the price-tag. I find them on kingsnake and faunaclassifieds often enough.
The older crosses go for more, but babies tend to sell for less if you look around. Also, if you follow the sale of a cross (either individual or batch of babies) you'll see the price go down after a few weeks, once they see no one's biting to pay market price for a cross.
Age has a factor as well...if you buy a baby, you are guessing on the colors based on the parents colors but you can't be guaranteed, so you can generally get them cheaper.
on the other hand an established, healthy, adult with brilliant colors will be worth more, also factor in locales, whether they are proven breeders or not, etc etc can all factor in as well.
as a beginner i'd focus on a more common locale (blue bar ambilobe probably) and get a young, but not too young. don't worry too much about the colors as i can almost guarantee you will fall in love regardless

There is only one person that I know that says that. That is definatley not true with chameleons. More like a marketing tactic to sell overpriced panthers if you'd ask me.
Don't get me wrong price does some what reflect but you have to take more into consideration than just price. Which i hope we all do.
You'll probably have a good selection of nice chameleons to choose from there.
