My Veiled just got done at 730pm laying her first clutch of eggs. She started at about 8am this morning, didn’t like the hole she had dug so she filled it in and dug another... She’s sooooooo skinny now LOL., OK so reason for this post, Is 54 eggs a normal clutch for a veiled? Especially being her first laying, just seems like allot. She turned me into a total wreck worrying about her all day but she seems fine, (totally exhausted but fine just the same) after burying the eggs she went up to get heat and drank allot of water, no food though she seems more interested in getting some sleep so Ill keep watch on her tomorrow, but like I said she seems fine. Anything special anyone can think of that I should do? Oh while I have your attention, My beardy laid like 1 clutch a month for 5 months straight then stopped, do I have this to look forward to with the veiled or is the one clutch per laying season going to be it. Thanks all

That is quite a few eggs- You might want to read this. You can do things to reduce the size or possibly eliminate clutches.

My female beardie- the first year she laid 4 clutches.... This year one clutch only :)

Hopefully your beardie will do the same. I did nothing different with her but she did Burmate fully last winter and the previous winter she never really went down- do not know if that had anything to do with it

I am going through the exact same thing right now and had the same question. My girl had 49 in her first clutch. I also started a thread about it so hopefuls someone can answer it.
Eta guess Linda is on the ball tonight. Posted during my typing.

It's a lot for a first clutch, but not what you'd call abnormal, they can do over 60 alright if they're healthy.......how old is your girl? It is usually better to cut food and temps for them a bit, look at what lindawaz linked you to.........
Veileds will sometimes lay extra clutches, but in your situation I would say I strongly doubt she'll be laying any again soon. Give extra calcium, and extra of water for at least a week, to help her recover :)

Not so much on the ball but everyone wants to make sure you get the information you are looking for! We have all wanted answers and we all want them NOW!!

This forum is full of great information. Every reptile is different- Cham don't let them see you watching them dig- Aubrey my female beardie- on my lap scratched 5 times with her back legs and then started laying her clutch- 22 eggs 15 mins . Scratched 3 0r 4 more times with her back legs and hopped off me onto the couch! Leaving me with a pile of eggs....

Very glad I knew not to let Lily see me, especially since 6 weeks earlier Aubrey had done her thing...

That is why this place is great-Dedicated people promoting healthy Chams :D

Veileds can lay over 100 eggs....but that doesn't mean its normal or good for them. I believe in the wild its more like 2 dozen that they would lay.

Did she eat today? I usually feed them well for a couple of days and then cut them back to 8 - 12 crickets (or equivalent of other insects) every 2 or 3 days depending on the season. I also keep the basking temperature in the low 80's to help keep them from being too hungry.

Was she mated? If not, it would likely be several months until she lays again.

wow 100 in one clutch? That must really play havoc with their little systems...
Do they recover from a clutch that large?
