Wtf WHEN DOES IT END PETCO??????

Never--- Just think if you / we were fish people.. Daily fish die (hundreds sometimes). As long as there is supply and demand along with people purchasing healthy and sick animals it will never end. If you look up youtube and "dumpster diving at petco or petsmart (don't recall) they find live iguanas and other living things.. The sad truth.

Petco in Eatontown NJ a few nights ago.
Two panthers in a small glass cage, one was 3x the size of the other.
I asked how old they were and how long they had been in the small glass tank.
Was told nobody buys them as they're too expensive ($350).
Then told they were both the SAME AGE.
They had gotten them in NOVEMBER for Black Friday and didn't sell.
Larger one was outcompeting the other for food.
I asked why they don't seperate them, feed more, reduce price, or adopt them out.
The answer was a shrug.
We left with my 10yo son crying because he felt so bad for them.
Saying that, Brick Petco has a salt water aquarium guy and staff that are top notch.
Clean tanks, wont sell to anyone on a whim, healthy fish, and constant maintenance.
They're well known in the reef community and its the place most NJ reefers pick up their fish from.
Guess its a store by store thing with luck of the draw employees.
Sometimes they hire people that are experienced and care, most often not.
What about starting an organized petition to submit to Petco regarding their inability to maintain animals which results in animal cruelty?

Mark-C WOW! I would have to talk to the manager (with my phone on record-if legal in your state). I have talked to the Managers here if there is an issue. Lucky for me the Manager was a Panther Breeder a few years back (did the reptile shows) just became too competitive for him to make $$$$. Petitions have been done and with time it all starts over again. Money is the name of the game, and if they die it is probably clamed as "property damage" right off for tax purposes (I do not think of living things as property, but I don't make the laws).

I may not always get my meaning across and might be mistaken for knowing more than I actually do (I usually only comment on personal experience) and believe in "exceptions to the rules".
You can do more damage with a pen and paper- but in the long run the result may not be what you like. Then again, it might be.

Very sadly, I don’t see this problem as going away anytime soon. It took a lot of time, a lot of work, a lot of people and good amounts of money before pet stores stopped selling dogs and cats and puppy mills were banned. That was a somewhat easier battle as the majority of people love their furry mammals, especially dogs. Unfortunately the sentiment isn’t as strong for reptiles, rodents, fish and the other animals that are still allowed to suffer for the sake of the almighty dollar.

So ssad. I went to a pet store yesterday. & same thing. The cham had a shit ton of something on the end of his tail. Bird waters where filled completely with nastiness. Reptiles had tons of poop & dead bugs in their enclosures. It's just sad.

Not necessarily. Do you have a beardie? Mine chills like that quite often; the back legs are known as "sexy legs"—a pose common to both beardies and iguanas.
I'm not saying there may not be problems; if they're improperly keeping chams, they're likely keeping other species improperly as well. I'm just saying, the picture alone isn't indicative—beardies do that.
When does it end? When people stop supporting the practice, including "rescuing" animals from those places.

If they stopped making money by selling anything they would stop. As long as they can make a profit by using these animals as lures to draw buyers in they will continue. I don't buy anything from them short of a dire emergency. That includes dog and cat items.

Im so glad we live in the UK and dont have petco... We do have pets at home but the staff are well trained and the animals are well cared for, id have a house full if i was in the US, poor babies hopefully the staff learn, only problem is if people buy them in the poor condition they're in without a grilling they wont learn

I think that's more a matter of law than business. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that UK laws regarding neglect & abuse are (in general) much more strict (and have more teeth) than US laws.
You used to have Petsmart UK until Pets at Home bought them.
I'm not sure who owns it now.
It also appears that Pets at Home's record may have a few blemishes.
