Wtf WHEN DOES IT END PETCO??????

I think that's more a matter of law than business. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that UK laws regarding neglect & abuse are (in general) much more strict (and have more teeth) than US laws.

You used to have Petsmart UK until Pets at Home bought them.

I'm not sure who owns it now. 🤷‍♂️

It also appears that Pets at Home's record may have a few blemishes.

Bloody hell i didnt know that!
The two stores i have near me are really good tbf the staff in the different departments know their stuff and look after the animals, so i cant grumble really :)

Not necessarily. Do you have a beardie? Mine chills like that quite often; the back legs are known as "sexy legs"—a pose common to both beardies and iguanas.

I'm not saying there may not be problems; if they're improperly keeping chams, they're likely keeping other species improperly as well. I'm just saying, the picture alone isn't indicative—beardies do that.

When does it end? When people stop supporting the practice, including "rescuing" animals from those places.

Well I realize that by “rescuing” animals you’re still supporting petco’s practices but I’m so glad I rescued Eustis from petco because he’s alive and healthy and a beautiful Jackson’s chameleon Who would’ve died had I left him there. Something does need to be done to bring awareness to their disgusting animal keeping practices and how they throw animals away. Maybe a petition will work. Meantime I don’t go into pet stores except to buy my cats vet recommended specialized food that they don’t sell anywhere else. I try very hard not to look at any of the animals while I’m there. I avoided pet stores for many years until my mother needed a cat tree for her cats and that’s when I saw Eustis. Maybe I’ll look into getting my cat food from chewy.com then I won’t have to go into the pet store at all!

It's a rock and a hard place. They (the corps) know very well their practices pull at the heartstrings of animal lovers—that's the strategy.
I'm against supporting their practices, but in an informative way—not judgmental. People still have to follow their hearts & consciences.

OTOH, is it a bad thing to ask folks who rescue these critters to go to the links and sign a petition?

Are you aware that Chewy is owned by Petsmart?
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=who+owns+chewy?
We used to get Pukanuba Eukanuba there, but the stuff has temporarily dried up with the supply chain issues.

No I wasn’t aware. So where do you get pet supplies without supporting pet smart or petco?
Good question! There were a couple of locals (one pet store & one feed & grain) that used to carry it, but they have the same supply chain problems. For the time being, we've had to switch him over to another kibble (IME, dogs don't care unless the food is really bad) that's more readily available.

Can you get your cat food thru any of the vets in your area?

Not that I know of because it’s not prescription, but it is a high end non allergenic kibble.

So ssad. I went to a pet store yesterday. & same thing. The cham had a shit ton of something on the end of his tail. Bird waters where filled completely with nastiness. Reptiles had tons of poop & dead bugs in their enclosures. It's just sad.
I hate going into these stores so much. I know that seeing this exact thing is inevitable. Had to go as I’d run out of bugs and needed some emergency crickets (which I won’t be buying again. i forget how many of them were in the container, but there weren’t many to begin with and several of them died the same day I bought them. Complete waste of money), and of course that meant seeing the chameleon tank. They had a female panther AND a juvenile veiled in the same enclosure. Keeping entirely different species together now.. fantastic. Below them was a single TINY veiled cham that I suspect wasn’t even 3 months old.

This has been mentioned already, but I don’t see issues like these resolving any time soon :(

Might help to know exactly what we're talking about, but I don't want to pry... (PM if you'd prefer)
I know Science Diet has a couple of formulas; they have a Prescription Diet sold only through vets, and regular Science Diet is available at the big box stores.

Not everything vets sell is prescription though. Some companies just market their high end pet foods to be sold thru vets only.

I just thought it might be worth a call and a question (If you don't sell it, do you know where I can get it?)

I hate going there but when I go I all was look at the reptiles in sucks I have seen about 30 Leopard geckos in a 5.5 gallon tank I have seen to Jackson chameleon want baby. And I lot of chameleon with eggs it is sad 😞.

Called the Petco today and talked to the animal manager. Mentioned that the small cham thats been outcompeted for food, looks way to small and unhealthy, and doesn’t have the proper habitat, seems on its way out.

Mentioned that if no-one would buy him at $350, and if his health turned further to the worst, they can give me a call and I’d adopt him and bring him back to health.

I was told they’ve only been in there for 3 months. If they’re unsold (and survive) for 7 months they’re up for adoption.
He did, however offer a discounted price of $300.
I’ll not give them a sale on this.

I left my number with him and told him if they have any chams sick or unsellable to call me.
If anything comes of this I’ll try to nurse them, get them vet treatment, and adopt them out (for what my cost of vet care was).

Spoke to a few folks I know and have access to a few small screen enclosures to help the effort.
