After the terrible loss of my little guy Charlie, he left a void and took a little peice of my heart with him. I totally fell in love with Chams so now am getting to get a baby this time, hoping on having a better experience and have a Cham to love for many years to come. I have not made up my mind yet on what type i'd like but i'm leaning more toward a Panther like Charlie. I was thinking of heading out to LLL Reptiles this afternoon, what are your thoughts on that store? I thought about looking into some local breeders but are a little pricey for what I can afford right now.

I already have a little 12x12x24 cage ready to house my baby and will be picking up a much larger cage later today to put him in when he reaches adulthood.

Please I would like more pointers on what I can do to my set up. Only thing missing is a live plant which I will pick up right before bringing my baby home. I bought the supplies already to make my own dripper...

Not too shabby for a free cage, huh? :D

Cage has a small tear but nothing a little mending can't fix.

i would take that water bowl out of there chameleons dont drink from standing water. some extra foilage and it'll look great

Oh, no. I forgot to mention that I use that to catch the dripping water from the dripper. :) I'm trying to figure out how to make a better drainage system but i'll figure it out sooner or later. :D Thank you!

What happened to Charlie???

I know that "Charlie" was a spur of the moment thing and you were not prepared for him.... so in the meantime I hope that you have researched the Forums to learn as much as possible before buying your Cham... a little study goes a long way esp when trying to keep a healthy Cham. Things such as housing, lighting, feeding, humidity and supplementation are all very important.

Here are some links for you incase you did not run across them before.

I know you are leaning towards a panther which I feel a beginner can keep as long as the proper Husbandry is in place. But many recommend Veilds as starter Chams... more hardy. Good luck keep us posted and feel free to ask Q's if you need to....

Well, thats ok...

I use a "catch dish" for my little dripper and then when I stop it I empty the water immediatley so it is not sitting in there. That can work as long as you keep after it. :p

Maybe I should go for a Veiled... = / I wouldn't want to kill the little panther, that is one of my biggest worries of course. I'm still searching and researching...

Why don't you use a fig in a pot in there? More foliage so your cham feels more secure, it also is a good way to maintain the humidity a bit longer.

I dont' want to get the plant just yet... I want to make sure I have a Cham picked out before I get one, Also, I haven't been out today but already have been to a couple of places and think I might just go with a Pothos plant. I have decided to get a ficus for him once he is large enough for a larger cage.

I do the same kind of thing, except I cover the top of the catching container with a screen so my cham can't get in there and drink the standing water (I worry about bacteria and stuff). It works great. Just clean it out when it starts to get full.

So far your setup looks great and when you get the new foliage it will be even better. Make sure you have the right lighting to start. 5.0 UVB and a dome light with a 40-60 watt. Don't forget to pic up your supplements D3 with out calcium..D3 with calcium and a multivitamin. I'm sure LLLrep can set you up right for a panther if that's what you want. They pretty much have the same care as a veiled. I got my Jackson's from LLL 2 years ago and he was shipped from CA to Maine in Feb and arrived in perfect condition and he's amazing!! Good luck with your new cham and make sure to post pics when you get him :)
