Yellow Shed

I was wondering if anyone else has a chameleon that sheds their skin in yellow?

My WC T. quardricornis, has done this twice now and the first time I blew it off as just getting rid of the 'junk' from quarantine, but this is the second shed and its still yellow.

A photo of Dashel who just started his shed on Saturday,,poor guy was just squirming to rub on his bush. But you can see how white it is.

i've never heard of yellow shed.. but from the photo your Quad seems ok!! how do you add with calcium and vitamines the diet??

Very interesting. I've never heard of a yellow shed before. Hope someone in the forums has a answer for you. Any meds. in use before the shed?

No medications being used and I use the supplement dusting sparingly. My bugs eat the best organic foods that I can find.

The suggestion about smoking isn't a bad one and would make sense, but unlike other people whom I know that live in Southern CA and lose their gravid female paradalis in the backyard, she isn't around nicotine at all.

None of the other chameleons have shed in yellow either, so I am thinking this is an internal cause? IF so, what did she eat that the others haven't ?

Her behavior appears to be 'normal'.

Interesting. My knowledge in chameleons is limited at best, but in humans this could be a form of jaundice. Never seen this in mine.

Someone that know better, feel free to correct me, but maybe it is due to the high humidity. Maybe the shed shin is just wet and looks darker... Just a thought. I haven't noticed any of mine doing it, but maybe...

i have seen this on a few species of snake, *and one sick jacksons chameleon* this weekend.


SNakes i am really not sure.

but the jackson that had this was not lookin to hot, weak and had alot of retained shed from not enough humidity.


i can't really explain why its yellow though.


as long as she looks healthy i probably wouldn't worry about it to much, but as always, consult your local veterinarian.

I have no idea what is causing this. All the chameleons get the same food. I don't feed my bugs a lot of carrots, they get spring mix, corn on the cob, leftover silkworm chow, etc. The outdoor misting system as far as I know is fine and she has chameleons on either side of her including Dashel the deremensis with the white shed.

Her eyes look clear to me, so if it was hepetitus or jaundice wouldn't it show up in the eyes too?

in humans it would. in humans it can also turn saliva yellow. maybe check her mouth?


then again, maybe it just a one time freak occurance. watch her for any odd behavior and see how her shed is next time.

I would not worry about it. WC animals can have multiple dirty sheds before their skin is fully cleaned up. I suspect it will get cleaner and cleaner with every shed.
