Just thinking about getting a pothos plant, would it be okay to leave this in a pot with the compost in that in came with??

You can switch the soil out, since oftentimes ants and other bugs are living in it if its been at a plant store for a while outside.

after you switch the dirt out, cover the dirt with large river rocks, so he doesnt eat the dirt.

and dont be surprised if he eats a bit of the leaves.

Pothos is great. Can even withstand lower humidity levels as for Veiled. Soil needs to be replaced if you have the white nitrate balls in it. Other than that I do believe (and I might be alone in this forum) that once in a while they might swallow some soul without dying. Proper Lighting is more important after all.

Yes. Should wash the leaves off to remove pesticides and sprayed fertilizers. Covering the soil with rocks mitigates any possible issues with ingesting soil, fertilizer, perlite etc.
