Yoshi The Veiled (New User)

Hello! Im new to Chameleon Forums, and Chameleon husbandry in general. I own a baby Veiled Cham of about 2 months, his name is Yoshi and he was about 9 cm when we got him.

He looks like a regular Veiled Cham with pink accents on his feet and head. I love my Yoshi so dearly and iv'e been taking very good care of him the day I got him. I took down as many notes as I could when I got him: physical appearance, habits and actions.

Two physical features ive noticed are:
- Stripe along under-arm possibly meaning dehydration
- Small bump near his left elbow, i'm really hoping this is NOT MBD, and i'm sure it is'nt because:
- His mom never carried any signs of MBD, according to the pet store
- I have been feeding him calcium coated crickets (Two week) every second day

One habit ive noticed:
- He sleeps for a very long time, about 5PM - 6PM to around 4AM - 6AM, my mom claims this is probably just because he is a baby and he needs to rest a lot because hes growing

Yoshis habitat: The food dish is visible, on the side with the heat lamp (currently off). The flag on the right side is to cover the light at night.

Yoshis silk plant, on the opposite side of the heat lamp, this is where he sleeps.

This is Yoshi, I put a blue circle around the questionable spot just below his elbow but didnt manage to get a picture of the dry looking stripe across his belly.

If anyone who is experienced with Veiled Chams in any way could please answer my questions, I would really appreciate that!

Welcome to the forums you'll love all the new things you'll learn here first what's the humidity and heat gauge? What type of calcium are you giving him and what do you feed him in the food bowls? What's the what type of bulbs are you using ? How many times do you mist ? And chameleons need 12 hours of light as well as night

I dont think he should be sleeping durring the day. Could you explain your dusting schedule? Also what petstore? If you got him from a large chain they probably will not know anything about the parents

He dosent sleep so much during the day, I say more so at night. More of a go to sleep early, wake up early. In fact, hes awake right now (5:45)

I feed him 7 (two week) crickets twice a day, one day ill dust them and the next I wont.

I got him at the pet store in my town, they are not a huge chain and they treat their pets very will. (AJs Pets and Things, if you really want to know). And his mom was also for sale, a very good looking Veiled Cham- picture perfect!

I only feed mine the crickets during the day so they can bask and digest them properly 10 you're using calcium with or with out d3 when you dust? The bump does look like mbd that's how mine started the vet recommended crushed oyster shell to use everyday as calcium the you use the d3 watch him very closely if he falls take his things out and put them lower for him to climb on

Thanks! I already love it here!

The humidity is constantly around 65-75 (At night it will drop down to 55-60 but there wont be any water on the leaves) And the temp reader, in the middle, almost always reads 75-80.

I feed him two week old crickets dusted with zoo-med repti calcium.

I use a 75W exo terra basking bulb and a 26W exo terra reptile UVB, hand chosen by a store assistant

I mist thoroughly every 1-2 hours excluding the time im asleep, and yes I have the heat lamp on at night but not the day light

Does the calcium have d3?

I'd use a creamic heat light at night if it's honestly needed so there's no light to disturb the sleep crickets dusted everyday with calcium without d3 2 times a week with d3 multivitamin 1 time a month

MBD is not a genetic issue, but one from poor supplementation and not enough USB or natural sunlight. If you follow a good regiment of dusting well gut-loaded feeders along with the proper lighting needs you can avoid MBD. Are you misting the Enclosure? What type of lights are you using?
