Hey gals and guys,
Today I explored a new facet of the chameleon husbandry.
About two weeks ago my melleri started shedding. Around that time I noticed a plug sticking out of his cloaqua. I had never seen any sticking out but had seen several ones wiped off branches.
These last couple...
Hey napoleone,
My melleri will stay under the nozzles as long as water flows. I've never seen him walk out of the rain. Water is on for a maximum of 15 minutes a day so. When he's done drinking he just closes his eyes and waits it out/sleeps. I've given him showers before and the same thing...
Hey guys,
No, both cages (flexarium and zinc plated) you mentioned wouldn't suffice for a full grown melleri. It would be plenty okay for 1 perhaps 2 juveniles but an adult would probably show stress behavior/colors.
If you look on melleridiscovery.com, click husbandry, then caging, you'll...
Hi ALex,
MD is indeed a great site to find a lot of information about the great Melleri. Before getting mine, I would read and reread it many times a week. I made some mistakes but I learned a great deal. After a while you get a feel for what a happy melleri looks and behaves.

You can also remove the whole leaf with the eggs on it and put that in the incubator (if that's needed). Just make sure you remove the plant matter so they don't feed on it when they hatch.
I got 15 hawk moths still in their pupae. They'll be hatching real soon. I hope I'll get tons of eggs...
Hmmmm
I believe positioning the lamp as you said would be a problem. I think the lamps have to be positioned upright, looking down. I remember reading it on a piece of paper that came with the lamp.

Hello Chamillonaire,
I currently use a megaray mv bulb and it works great with the proper tools. I read the temperature at the basking spot with an infra red gun. I also get a reading for UVB with a solarmeter 6.2. At 21 inches from the center of the lamp I get apprx. 85F and...
I'm not even sure the plants can support him right now. At least not the hibiscus or bouggainvillea. The hot spot is about 4ft off the ground. How tall should it be?
I got rid of the schefflera and I replaced it with a ficus alli. Looks much nicer and sturdier.
He hasn't drink since...

Thanks guys for your input. I'll remove it right away. Good thing my guy didn't feel like exploring his new palace :o When I bought the tree I asked to see its description in a gardening book. Found it but it referred to schefflera arboricola so I just figured it would...
Hi all
I just finished setting up my enclosure for my melleri, Jacques. The base is made out of stained and waterproofed ply wood. There are 5 plants on the table: pothos, schefflera amate, hibiscus, draceana, and bougain villea. I feel there is not enough vertical climbing spots but I'll try...

Here's the instructions I used to build my setup. Technique looks pretty similar to the one used by orchidartist. Took me a lot of time (4 weekends) to get everything together but the end result is definitely worth it...
I had the same problem you have right now. I had small 1/4'' holes all over the bottom of my enclosure (which is made out of 1/4'' plexiglass). I cut small grooves around each hole (looks like a sun from above). The grooves cover most of the bottom such that when water falls in the groove it...
It looks like it can last up to 1-1.5 years.
The cost of one reptisun tube is about 35 bucks (canadian) and lasts only 6 months. Adding this to the cost of the heat bulbs (guessing 5-10 bucks per year) I say you do save money with this.
Hi all
I was looking for mv bulbs and I found this:
http://www.reptileuv.com/megaray-sb-100-watt-flood-low-lamp.php
Looks like it has a lower uvb output than the regular 100W.
Any thoughts on this?
Hi LL
Have you got any pics of your free range? I am planning on setting one up soon and I'd like to see what your escape proof enclosure looks like.

I think this is the article you're referring to. It's for MV lamps but I would guess it also applies to fluorescent tubes as well.
