Powersun

Is the Powersun good for Chameleons. And what watts to get 100w or 160w?

No its too stong UVB output for chams. I used one for my veiled cham for about a week... He always hid on the bottom of the cage when it was on.. But would come out when it was off...

Also the bulb bothered my eyes

Check out the UV Guide website and read up on MV lamps... They are pretty strong. If you used one you would need to put it at about 10-12" above the cage to get a 'safe' level of UVB at the basking area.... and then the heat from the lamp might not be enough to warm the cham so you'd need another basking lamp anyway.... not really a two in one kinda lamp anymore at that height...

Link to the UV Guide MV lamp spread charts.

its best to leave these alone stick to linear tube lights and incondesant heat basking areas

Mega Ray 100w low

Hello Chamillonaire,

I currently use a megaray mv bulb and it works great with the proper tools. I read the temperature at the basking spot with an infra red gun. I also get a reading for UVB with a solarmeter 6.2. At 21 inches from the center of the lamp I get apprx. 85F and 15-17uW/cm2, with an ambient temperature of 72F. These bulbs are very good, but they have to be closely monitored to be as safe and efficient as possible.

Btw, this lamp is used for a 1.5 year old C. Mellerii.

Pictures please :D

I was talking with the UVB meter owners about something like this:

MH-MVreflector.jpg

the MV lamp is facing up at an aluminum sheet and it will reflect the UVB down into the cages side by side.... I need to buy a MegaRay before I can give any feedback... I imagine the heat will mostly be used up on the metal but the UVB should be at a usable level. Not REALLY sure why I am going with this... UVB tubes would work just as well.... but I like to tinker.

Hmmmm

I believe positioning the lamp as you said would be a problem. I think the lamps have to be positioned upright, looking down. I remember reading it on a piece of paper that came with the lamp.
