    Worried about my Zeke

I have an ambilobe the same age and condition. Other than marking differences, they look identical. I have been having the same problem as well, but for about a week now. His appetite has gone way down. He has been looking paler, so I thought a shed was coming, but its been over a week, and...

    Regulating temperature

I can see where having additional lights would help the issue... I have been needing to get a grow light, so maybe that will help. The dimming effect is nice too, might have to incorporate a variable resistor I've also considered using computer fans to regulate, as they're quiet, cheap, and...

    Regulating temperature

Hello all, I'm in the process of fabricating a temperature control system, and need some input. In essence, temperature sensors do what they do, sense temperature, and when it gets too hot, they react to lower it, or vice versa. So, my first thought is, temp>90*, turn off the heat lamp...

    New owner....

I think the point of tvrsir's post was a good warning to give, especially for a new/potential owner. Yes, some chameleons can become tame enough to tolerate handling, and some more so to the point where they see humans as another "high perch" that provides them with food, etc. These results...

    Cleaning plants?

chameleons have been known to eat a little soil, whether they mean to or not. You don't want them eating fertilizer and other chemicals, so to be safe people will re-pot the plants with organic soil.

    Ecozone Vivarium/Habitat controllers

I don't know how much of a "techno-junky" you are, and how much time you might have on your hands, but I'm in the process of designing a similar system with an Arduino, and some Temp/Hum sensors. While it would save a lot of money, it would take some time, and a basic knowledge of programming...

    Grendel after another shed

It's all just good genes shauna! And I appreciate the rep! If you haven't tried already, picasa is very easy to use!

    Grendel after another shed

Grendel just shed for the third time since I've had him, and his colors are really starting to come through! Age: Approx 5 1/2 months Length: 5 1/2" snout to vent. Funny coincidence. Hasn't been growing much longer lately, but seems to be bulking up. Let me know what you guys think! I...

    What do you guys think?

While it may accomplish what you are looking for (a bottom or "substrate" that drains quickly) I think this will be a pain to clean. I thought about a layer of rocks over mesh or grating on the bottom of my enclosure, but even that would turn an almost daily "spot clean" of fecals, into a long...

Picking up for the first time

Like what was said, hand feeding and time. The moment he pulls back, or tries to get away, then leave him alone and close the cage. Anymore interaction, and you'll just stress him out, which he will associate with you and your hand. You want him to only have good memories of your hand. My guy...

    Hornworm/Panther Issue

It could just be your cham as well. Mine has gone crazy over them since the first day I brought some home.

What to use on the base of my enclosure?

I just finished a makeshift drainage system that has worked very well for me. I went to a place called "The Container Store". Pretty much a walmart for storage containers. I found one of those stackable drawers, like this...

How can I tell if my panther Cham is eating ?

Like everyone else said, lack of feeders, and the presence of poop shows he is eating. On another note, I take it from your name you play paintball?

what is wrong with this picture?

The hiding in the corner is probably due to lack of coverage. Their "fight or flight" instinct is get as high and hidden as possible. You want to have spots at the top of the cage where you give them the ability, or at least illusion, that you cannot see them when they are there.

I've got my eye on one of these.

I would advise against that. I bought this one first for my cham, and it did almost nothing for me. Humidity wouldn't get high enough, cage would leak and drip everywhere. Eventually I got fed up with it and bought a mistking. Its longest duration is a minute, and the intervals areever either...

    Panther chameleons

Those are the three differences actually! At least as far as I know. Males are bright and colorful. Females tend to stay in the neutral browns and blacks, with a little bit of their locale's coloration peeking through on some. Males are larger. I couldn't tell you the average difference...

    Different age groups

Imho, there's three main reasons for getting them young Start socializing young See them grow and develop, both color and temperment Save money So, if you can afford to get one a little older (5+ months), you will be getting a hardier lizard. Also, just because it has more time with...

    Rope for climbing

This is true. I had ropes strung up before my vines, and he swung and swayed violently whenever attempting to climb on them. He never used them, unless I spooked him, and they made an already stressful situation worse! Tied them to the roof of the cage, and he'll use them every once in a...
