I'm in Hawaii, so it does get over 80, but not in the shade. We keep them in the back patio, where it's nice and cool. I do like the idea of draping damp towels over the cage tho, I think I'm gna try that. I only saw one of them w/their eyes closed today, but I didn't get to spend too much time...
We were keeping them out in the back patio, where they got a healthy amount of sun and mist. Then ants started invading the cage and jacking all the pinheads, so we started bringing the cage inside for feedings. I really don't understand what's going on, I mean could they have caught some kind...
Posted this in the breeding forum, but no response. Just wondering if anyone knows if it's okay for babies to sleep during the day? A few of ours has been doing that today, and I'm worried cuz the rest aren't. I don't think they should be. They've been misted several times, and have received...
Hey guys, quick day 5 update: 18 of the babies seem to be eating well and actively exploring throughout the day. There are 3, however, that I'm a little worried about since they seem to just want to sleep. They look like they're well fed, and their eyes aren't sunken in, so I know they're not...
Okay, well just thought I'd provide an update for DAY 4. Most, if not all babies have eaten by now. We tried to free range the pinheads, but they just crawled right out the sides. At the moment, we have the cage in our living room, sitting on a table stand. We left the cup of pinheads in the...
GENIUS! I will call you for sure tomorrow to set this up...we also have a mealworm colony going that temporarily was under a bit of ant attack so this info is pretty critical!
Awwww man no ways!!! GRRRR I hate ants!! Luckily we haven't lost any babies to them yet, I mean if we did I probably would have lost it. Awesome idea to have them about putting the legs in a saucer of water. Their cage was sitting on a chair in the back patio, but we have since brought...
Moved the babies into a better cage tonight, and the official count is 21!!!! Which brings my cumulative Jackson count to 25...holy smokes, that's a lot of Jacksons!
We still fully intend on bringing all 21 into adolescence, so crossing my fingers that I can get my new cricket colony up and...
I doubt I could find a baby mantisis anywhere in hawaii...but if I could I'd probably buy about a dozen, rig all kinds of ant bait around the house then watch them all get eaten up!! lol :D
So after my babies got off to a good start (observed maybe half of them eating), I had to go out and run a few errands. Came back, and there were ants hijacking the pinheads! I was SO MAD.
Background: Ordered 200 silkworms a few months back...fed maybe 20 or so to my chams, then decided to...
Hey everyone! So on 7/21/12, my chameleon Fergie gave birth to 19 babies! (not 100% confirmed, it's definitely between 18 - 20). Haven't lost any yet, and the proud Mom is doing just fine, as we've observed her eating and drinking on a regular basis since giving birth.
Coincidentally, another...
At the least, I think a few of them will start eating. For now, as long as they're keeping cool and misted, and are actively wandering about the cage, you have nothing to worry about :)
wow, so the pinheads can't escape?? I was gna try cup feed mine, but I have a cage similar to yours and I'd rather let them free range around and let the little guys come across them themselves.
Ohh, haha prob cuz its' a close-up? I actually took a bunch more of those (probably about 40 pics in all) but decided to post mostly the group ones. Maybe I'll post more of the single shots when we were first moving 'em and stuff.
