Planned Odor free cricket breeding but changed my mind.

Agreed, dubias are much easier to breed and house than crickets. I have a small dubia colony in Reptibark/peat substrate in a 10 gal glass aquarium with a heat mat on the bottom. I feed them non-fatty kitchen scraps and pull out the males to feed to my turtles. They're sooo easy and low...

    Other Reptile Species?

I've had box turtles since I was 9 and am well known as "the turtle lady" in the area where I live. These are babies that hatched just last week. They're 3-toed box turtles (presumably).

Your softshell is so cute! I love their little pig/snorkle noses. Adorable!

How do you dust a GBR

Surprisingly the tube doesn't get moldy. The adults seem to like being up high so I usually set the paper tube roll on top of their overturned ceramic pot (which is a favorite hiding place for these little dudes) and they'll hang out in it while it's on top of the pot. There's been times...

How do you dust a GBR

Hello, I use a paper towel roll. I keep it in the roach container all of the time, and whenever I need to get some roaches out I simply pick up the tube and shake it into an empty bread bag with a little dust added. *shake shake shake* to coat the roaches, and then I just stick the whole bag...

    Chevy's Office Free Ranging it!

Wow, that looks really nice! How do you keep the poop from getting on your things? I've tried to free-range but my jackson would always end up somewhere weird (like on the bed), and I was worried about accidentally stepping/sitting on him. Also, the poop, lol.

Area By Area (& country) Vet list

I wonder if this thread would be better as a rolling post...like people re-post the list after they've added to it.

Texas, United States Dr. Larry White, DVM @ Briarcrest Vet Clinic (713) 789-8320 1492 Wilcrest Dr. Houston, TX 77042 I highly recommend Dr. White. He specializes in reptiles, especially turtles, but he's experienced with chameleons as well.

    Fungal Infection & Medicine Reaction

Ok, that sounds like a good idea. You can still use the cream if want. It couldn't hurt, really, and it might help by acting as a barrier against germs. Which UV bulb do you use and what's the closest that he can get to it currently? Is the UV bulb paired with his basking light and directed at...

How to make the humidity high?

Also, just as you suggested, you can always cover one side with plastic if the humidity is unable to be maintained using live plants, a dripper, and misting. Have you considered getting a MistKing misting system with outlet timer to automate the misting process? It works great if you're not home...

How to make the humidity high?

All three actions that you listed might be sufficient. I use live plants and they work great. My favorite is the Umbrella plant. Lots of foliage to hold little water droplets from a mister. Do you have a good hygrometer? I recommend getting a digital one, if you don't have one yet. Petsmart...

    Chameleon eats plant

What species of plant is it? You might just want to buy a plant for him that you're ok with him eating (when he's done eating that one-if it's safe to eat, of course). Don't forget to wash the new plant's leaves first with soap and water after taking it home from the store! Most stores sell...

    Fungal Infection & Medicine Reaction

I'm not trying to worry you more, but, if bad enough, both a burn and a fungal infection can cause permanent tissue damage and loss of spikes. The thing is, a burn can LEAD to a fungal infection...so, it may have been a burn first. If you have checked the cage and you feel that a UVB burn is...

How much Bug Juice for Sick Cham?

I didn't know that this group of chams didn't gape. He's very calm and gentle. I don't know if that's a typical jacksonii disposition or if he's just a chill lizard. He "gapes" sometimes, but it doesn't look like a threat display...more like he's taking a big breath after not breathing for a...

How much Bug Juice for Sick Cham?

Thanks for the link! Your source is probably right. I'm no expert on animal nutrition, but I wouldn't doubt that there is too much protein and vit A in there for long term use in chams. I've been worried about the protein in particular because, despite my best efforts to keep him hydrated...

gut loading? this may sound dumb

Oh, also you can use carrots or other veggies as the water source for the crickets, but the actual gutload (Repashy's in my case) is the most important part. I add grapes to one side of the cricket keeper and a dish of Repashy's to the other side. I don't mix dry gutload with the grapes.
