Its JULLE.. some moderator could change my nick as my name -> Juha.
There is too much mistakes..
I only use one 50w HID for one cage (40x40x76 and 46x46x92), nothing more.
I use standard E27 socket for the bulb and 50w ballast to operate it.
We have 230-240v, but i think you can use HID...
I thought i throw my opinion in about the supplementing..
I have notice that over supplementing with vitamins will have more serious effects than little less or nothing at all, especially with females.
They develop edema very easily and get lethargic.
Some babies may even die if they are...
I use fans sometimes with my mountain species and they are all fine. Also there hasn't been any problems with any other Bradypodion species.
It is just transvaalense that can not stand the fans/draft inside.
This is just what i have learned from my mistakes with transvaalense, i just wanted to...
For to be honest - i have no idea..
Maybe inside the blow is too constant and inside the air is never as fresh as outside.
In the outside keeping wind is never a problem. This year here was very vet and stormy summer, but i had no problems what so ever.. It is only when kept inside, even draft...
It helps hold and release humidity through out the night and dries nicely during the day.
And no, i have't had any problems with anyone eating it, i use it for all my chameleons.
It's JULLE ;)
I keep mine mostly in pairs.
In 45x45x92cm screen cages, individuals and babies in 42x42x75cm. Lots of live plants and moss on the bottom.
Humidity varies 40-90% higher at night and lower in the day.
Lighting is one 50w HID (i use Lucky Reptile for transvaalense, since they can be...
Fans and transvaalense is a bad combination.
I had once RI symptoms caused by a fan and the fan wasn't even on all time..
transvaalense just can't stand any direct draft, i keep their cages away even from direct bath of normal air circulation in my cham room.
I use these, raptors are the best.

Sorry i read you wrong :)
But anyways, HQL is widely used in central europe and they realy are ok when kept short times inside.
HQL don't work for longer periods.
Hid's and arcadia mv's has worked for me.
My oldest arcadia mv is 1.5 years old and almost no decay, i realy wait for the 80w version...
HQL is Osram's mercury-vapour lamp.. These laps are OK if you keep animals inside only for few months of the year !! Very low UV production.
HQI/HID is better when kept longer periods inside.
Yes that is normal, that females get very aggressive when kept single. It is nothing to be worried about, only when you start breeding attempts.
Females can be like torpedoes after the male, if they are not receptive and believe me.. it is very baad for the male.
This is why i now keep them...
Here is a link for one of the HID brands. There is also 4 other manufactures at the moment, but raptors are the best.
I live in Finland, so the night drop is not a problem for me ;)
46x46x92 for a pair, sigles are in 40x40x76.
I don't have any trios of trans together, but if i'd keep 3 in one, it would be the largest cage 61x61x122.
Transvaalense is much bigger than thamnobates..
Yes :)
How i keep them, it's simple..
I keep them only in screen enclosures nowadays, glass didn't work for me.
I use HID lighting for all my animals, one bulb per cage. It provides heat/intensive light and lots of UV. I do use solarmeter to check the levels.
Temperatures never go above 30°C...
