I rescued this female Jackson's from my cat the other day, on the island of Oahu. Never seen a Jackson's with these sorts of colors. Obviously she is extremely stressed, but she was beautiful. Had a minor injury, but I think she will recover just fine.
Yay or nay on purslane as cricket gutload? The farm is currently overrun with it and I was thinking about bringing it home to pot and grow for feeders.
Thank you. I've definitely been being paranoid and just need to accept he'll need a while to settle in. This morning I caught him creeping around and sunning himself, so I gave him a good soak with the hose and he loved it. Gave me a big ol' stretch and posed handsomely.
It's the only species...
Thank you. That's what I thought, I just lost my last one so suddenly I would rather be overly cautious this time around. He actually has a lot of horizontal surfaces, it's just hard to photograph the whole cage.
I know most people here are pretty open minded, but it can be a touchy subject and I'd rather take it off the table as a point of discussion.
Sorry for the poor quality photos, but hopefully this helps. Sun was just about to go down, so he's more "bunchy" than he is during the day, but that is...
Love the feeder bin! The cage looks amazing and it's going to get better as those plants grow in. Only recommendation is maybe a little more coverage over the bars in the center. Neil is a looker!
I may just be being a paranoid mom and not letting my jackson settle in, but I would rather get ahead. Long story short is he has his one or two perches in the cage, and I never see him exploring any other area or doing much but basking.

Haha, we already live with so many bugs. I'm more worried about the spiders and centipedes it may attract than the roaches themselves. If I get them they are living in the rafters with the crickets.
I know it's not a lot of effort, and I may get around to it. My space is really limited as it. 250sq foot cabin I share with my boyfriend, and cat doesnt leave a lot of room for bug bins.
I thought about doing this, but I'd have no where to keep my cham while I got everything safely coated and dried, and for the price the PVC is sort of worth it. I'm probably going to go down to Home Depot tomorrow afternoon since I'll already be in the area and pick some up.
It's a dark fiberglass windowscreen that is very visible and unattractive, and the top is galvanized mesh. Since it's an outdoor cage that's a lot of possible heavy metal getting into his system, and the PVC mesh is only available in 15ft rolls, so I figured I'd just replace all of it while I'm...
Ah, the joys of living in Hawaii. Free chameleons... no decent supplies to DIY with.
The PVC coated mesh is unavailable, unless I want to trade an arm and a leg to get it shipped here, but the PVC only mesh is currently available in stock (for less than half the price). Since there is no way...
Ok, that's good to know. He was just caught from the wild, so I know he has some parasites, and I haven't gotten to do a fecal yet. I used them as a pinch before I could get any crickets and seeing as they are burrowing insects I figured it wasn't the best option. I'll probably avoid them again...
I work on an organic farm and we have a soil pile from leftover wheatgrass that is loaded with these surinam roaches. In a pinch I caught some ad a feeder for my WC Jackson, but would like to regularly supply him with wild insects to break up the crickets. I'm in Hawaii so I am unable to ship in...
There was a product I used in my jeep to keep the cats out and it worked pretty well. It was called Cat Mace, but it was all natural oils, bought off Amazon. You'd need to apply it pretty regularly, but eventually the cats may get the idea and leave your yard alone.
