The vet said that Iggy looked better than most chameleons that she had seen in the past. She examined Iggy and prescribed five days of two different medicines against parasites and a food powder that is like liquid calories when mixed with water. She said that Iggy should be better in a few days...
I managed to get an appointment with a vet at 1:30. Is there anything specific I should ask? Other than checking for parasites and maybe an IV if they think she is dehydrated? Would an X-ray be helpful?
Also, how should I best maneuver her into the box?
This was last night:
This was before one of the times I gave her water today so far:
This is her position when she drinks:
This is how she looks after she drinks:
This is a view from above... and she looks a little fat, although she hasn't eaten in ages. She might just be scrunched...
Thank you so much zlew and OldChamKeeper!
When I checked on Iggy she was in the middle of enjoying a shower from the HubbaMist. She started drinking from the leaves, but wasn't getting much water from the leaf she was 'licking'. I dripped some water into her mouth. She kept leaning back and...
Thank you so much! Iggy changed positions on her branch...
Your Chameleon - female veiled chameleon, 2 1/2 years
Handling - a total of 2 times but only because she was receptive and overcame her shyness to climb on my arm for a few minutes
Feeding - crickets, mealworms, some outdoor moths...
My veiled female chameleon (Iggy) is about 2 1/2 - 3 years old, generally lays large clutches of eggs, and has had perfect health.
Around the 18th, she started shedding. The skin on her casque began to flake a bit.
Also on the 18th, Iggy stopped eating and was a dark color. This continued a...
Thanks for responding, Carol. She doesn't like being handled, but I'll see if I can find my list of vets in the area that treat chameleons...
Also, the temperature was in the low 80s because of the fake winter I was giving her. I had read somewhere that it's good to give them a slightly colder...
Everything was normal when she laid eggs.
She is a really dark green now, with even some dark purple maybe... She's been hanging out on the top half of her cage. Still won't eat. :(
Any thoughts?
I'll put her sand box back in just in case.
What else might it be?
Oh and I forgot to mention that she started shedding about 4 days ago but hasn't gotten farther than her head skin... but she doesn't usually refuse food when she sheds.
Oh gosh, I didn't even think of that possibility! Could she really have eggs left over for a month after laying 53 eggs??
She doesn't seem too chubby, if anything, she is a bit skinny...
My female veiled chameleon hasn't been eating much the last few days, and her color is darker than usual.
She is about 2 years old now, and has laid eggs before: 7/5/14- 63 eggs, 9/25/14- 51 eggs, 12/17/14- 40 eggs, and on 3/7/15 she laid 53 eggs. All the eggs were infertile because she has...
About one foot in width, height, and length. Or 5 gallon bucket. Make sure it stays moist so a tunnel will hold! Dirt or play-sand (with no added chemicals!!) should be good to put inside the bin. Some people get a clean trashcan and put in a few branches and one foot of soil at the bottom so...
She laid the last batch of eggs on December 17, 2014.
I fed her well as in about 10 crickets every day for about 5 days and then I started feeding her a bit less and less until about 1 1/2 weeks after she laid her eggs she was back to:
day 1: 10 crickets
day 2: nothing
day 3: 5...
Any thoughts? I don't want to start feeding her a lot and then make her lay a large amount of eggs but also don't want to not feed her enough before she lays her eggs because then she might not have all the energy she needs...
My female veiled chameleon has never been bred and has laid three clutches of eggs: 61, 57, and 40. Between the second and third clutch I started feeding her on a 'diet' recommended on this website: http://raisingkittytheveiledchameleon.blogspot.com/2007/12/keeping-female-veiled.html
I know...
I have a very healthy female veiled chameleon who is about 2-3 years old. She has laid 3 clutches of eggs before (61, 57, 40) all infertile (no breeding). She is shedding right now and sometimes she doesn't eat quite as much when she sheds so I didn't think of much when she was hesitant/not...
Not an expert, but I use the orange cubes along with other little bits of fruit, vegetables, and greens found on any DIY cricket gutload list. But I also regularly supplement with calcium (a few times a week), D3 (about every 3 weeks), and multi vitamin (about every 2 weeks) by dusting the...
