I think most people with mistking only use it like 2-3 minutes shortly before your lights come on and just after lights out.

I have used tap water for years, let it gas out uncovered for 24hrs. I don't trust the chemicals in the additives enough to use them.

I always feed my silkworms fresh mulberry leaves and never had a issue. If it is truly edema it is probably from your vitamins or schedule.
