He will be okay to turn off the basking light if the ambient temps are high. I have a herpstat thermometer for my guys basking bulb. I’m having the same issue as you right now. I’m looking at getting a portable AC unit to have for his room during the summer.
I hang my basking bulb from my ceiling using a chain. Also, there are some attachments you can make to cages that allows them to be hung. A rule of thumb for heat bulb placement is to put your hand closest to it near on the top of the screen. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them.
Gravid means that they are pregnant, so that would mean they’re carrying eggs. Receptive means that’s they’re ready to mate. I’m not sure about colors and stuff as I don’t have a female. However, if she is gravid, you will need a laying bin.
