Yikes! There's always a chance of it being the case. I'm not a vet, so I can't give you a definitive answer. All I can give are guesses. Checking with the vet is always the best choice.
Half pinky nail size maybe? Here's a video that sort of gives you an idea of what a colony would look like:
For getting them out of the dirt, maybe laying egg crate or TP tubes on top and seeing if they crawl, or even getting something like a small strainer to sift them from the dirt.

Yeah I'm not sure what's going on where they can't even let people know. Very strange. I was also looking to buy from them earlier this year but decided to go with another breeder.
Variety is certainly the spice of life. :D I'd also highly recommend Green Banana Roaches. They tend to be smaller than dubia or hissers. They're a bit more care intensive since they can climb, but there are some storage tubs out there with sealed lids that you can modify.
I've been hearing similar things about FlChams for a while now. I'm not sure what is going on, but until they actually start responding to communication, I wouldn't order from them. Last thing you want is something to go hinky during shipping and you can't get a hold of them.
Like alphakenc said, if you have your set up, lights, temps, supplementation, and feeders correct, you shouldn't have "a couple deaths." Have you looked on both kingsnake.com and faunaclassifieds.com? They usually have plenty of listings. There's also FB groups, though I always recommend asking...
You could feed very tiny roach nymphs if he takes to them. Smaller silkworms and hornworms would be good. Also you could look into things like bean beetles and other smaller cultured feeders that Nick Barta sells. There's some ads in the Chameleon Food section of the Market page here...
Unfortunately there isn't much you can do for the current damage. By the time it turns black like this, those areas are already dead or dying. I'd start looking for a chameleon knowledgeable vet and see if they can get you some silver sulfadiazine cream. Eventually the dead tissue will start...
FB groups are always hit or miss, though I enjoy most the Chamaeleonidae group. The people there usually keep the species that are more rare in captivity and it's always interesting to see them.
Forums like this are better in my opinion. I think of them as a repository of information rather...
Could use some better photos, but that does look like a burn. The black area is basically dead and will likely fall off. You should look at lowering the basking spot or raising the bulb, or even both to lower the temperature. What is his basking temperature at?
With Veiled Chameleons...
Crickets can definitely bite. Are you leaving any uneaten ones in the cage with him overnight?
He probably is a bit sore, so like Carlton said, just keep a close eye to make sure the black spots don't get worse.
It's always important to have the proper tools and know the pros and cons of those tools. Each one gathers data in a different way that helps you to better understand what is going on in the cage. Probes and temp guns are best used in conjunction with each other as they make up for each others'...
Definitely looks like a good set up! I would second getting the Mistking as soon as you can. It really makes life so much easier, and better, for your chameleon.
1. If you're too worried about the UVB reaching far enough, you could switch it with the front light where there are perches.
2. I...
Thanks everyone. It's been great watching him change so much and really thrive. It'll be interesting to see how much he grows over the next two months.
He's definitely a male, you can see his little tarsal spurs better in these older shots:
He's still young and getting his big boy colors. :D Here's a shot from yesterday after he finished his latest shed.
That would be a question for Todd at Light Your Reptiles. I don't think so though. The Arcadia bulbs also last longer, sometimes up to a year, because they're better quality. If you give Todd a run down of your cage and the plants in it, he'll be able to recommend a set up that suits you best. I...
