I was just wondering if its safe to add food coloring into cricket food. I bought carry-out crickets from my local Petco before and I noticed that the food cube they kept in the box was a greenish color and as a result, the bellies of the crickets were also a greenish color. I thought this was a...
Hi all,
My 2.5 month old ambilobe Specs here just went through his first shed since being in my care on the 13th of this month.. and then he went through his second shed today on the 26th. I thought that was pretty dang quick to shed again.. is it normal? Also, the first time he shed, it only...
Ahh, okay. :) I just wanted to be sure. Yeah, the logic of it was in my head though.
I had already guessed that two small crickets would equal to one medium one, so thats good then. It makes sense too seeing as though he eats about 6 a day as opposed to the 12 smaller ones he was eating. :)...
Hi all, this question has been in my head since I started feeding Specs larger crickets.
Ive was giving specs the smallest crickets available at a petstore (which is about what, 1/4 inch?) and he would eat about 12 of those a day. However, I recently changed to half inch crickets because I...
Hi, I just thought I'd share some pictures of Specs. I got a few pretty decent ones here of him posing for the camera. :) Tell me what you think!
(I LOVE this one :D)
Sorry for waiting too long to reply to this, I forgot to check on this thread.
But man, im pissed! My 3 month old ambilobe Specs has been going without UVB since I got him a month ago, if it means that the rays didnt even pass through the plastic cover slip! Why do they even sell them like that...
Ive fed him waxworms before.. but not since last Friday at least, I want to say. Saturday at the most. I dont know how long it takes for those to digest.
It didnt really look like urate to me. Thats why I was concerned. The shape and coloration arent what I normally see.. and plus the urate is the tiny bit of white on the right.
I came home from school today and I checked on Specs, my 3 month old ambilobe male. I noticed that in one of the droppings on the bottom of the cage, there was this weird whitish stringy thing in it. I know its not exactly pleasant to look at but heres a picture:
What exactly is it, and...
Hi,
im hearing that UVB rays cannot pass through plastic? The Zilla Slimline that I bought has a plastic cover slip screwed on just under the bulb.. should I take this off so that the bulb is exposed?
And good luck with Lana :)
Good news!
Specs is eating a full amount of around 11 crickets a day now. Also, even better, hes cup feeding! He took to the cup almost immediately, which made my life a hundred times easier. Before, the crickets were escaping out of the mesh in the cage. Not only that, but its so much easier...
I think I may be just over paranoid. Im going to try and watch the crickets a little more now to observe if they're really eating. I just bought a new fresh batch of crickets, and I see them eating more than the last one did. Weird, huh?
Im still seeing them swarm over the water pillow though...
I usually make frequent trips to Petco and pick up 50 or so at a time of the smallest they have, which is the length of my pinkie fingernail.
I really dont see them stay on the gutload much at all to tell how many are eating. I think what im going to do is try putting a little in a much...
Here is a picture of it if it helps any. Dry on the left and wet on the right:
I dont really notice it diminishing.. but I dont know if I just cant tell or not. I dont know how much crickets eat and if im putting too much. Like I said, this is my first time owning a cham, and also my first...
My crickets dont seem to be eating the gutloads I made. I rarely see them on it except to just walk over it and occasionally one will sit for a minute or two... but its rare to see and they never stay long. I tried an experiment and put a small piece of collard green in there, and I actually...
Its crane fly season here, and they are EVERYWHERE. When I came home from school one day, I discovered that my mom had put a couple in Specs's cage and he ate them. I was a little worried because I didnt know if they would be good for him or not.
Specs is my first and brand new ambilobe...
Yes! His tongue also gets that forked look. I was afraid that it meant he wasn't getting enough water and was trying to scout for some or something.
His urate looks white and normal, so thats good then. :)
