    Johnstonii Copulation!!

I am very excited to share with all that the Johnstonii locked up today. I will start by sharing that it has been a tough road. The female came in gravid and struggled to lay. She dropped eggs throughout the cage and none of them were viable. I imagine that the timing on the import along...

    I needed this like......

Thanks for the replies all. The good news is that I have no desire to handle it (or chams for that matter). In this case it will be a display animals. Was fortunate to get it from a local breeder, so that is always nice. I will update as it matures!

    Importing

Mike, I think you bring up the core issue in regards to time versus 'reward' in regards to breeding the uncommon species. I dont think it is neccesarily a money thing as most of these people are in it primarily for the effort and experience, but at the end of hte day, you do have to do...

    Importing

There remain a significant number of species that are not bred in the US at all. I feel that as long as we as hobbyist respect CITES quotas and have the interest of the animals in mind, we can import WC animals will minimal impact on the WC populations. As mentioned above, I think you will...

    Jackson's subspecies?

She is a normal 'Xanth' Jacksons. The coloration may be off for a number of reasons. Also, if it were a Meru, she would be a bit smaller and have a singular horn, additionally, a female j. jacksonii would have either 1 or 3 horns. HTH,

    roach colony questions.

My Dubia sit on heat tape set at 115, so likely around 105 in the bottom of the container. Those temps are fine. Where in Texas are you, I may be able to set you up with a large starter colony. PM me if you want.

    Cage temps for meru's

that'll be fine. Again the differential is key, not so much whether it is is 61 or 61.

    Cage temps for meru's

As others have said: I keep my Merus at daytime temp of 75, basking of 82, nighttime of 61. The day/night differential is key.

Successful pairing - so I hope!

Actually you are incorrect if the genetics have been kept pure. Now you may have experienced this in the past, but if it was the case, then it means somewhere in the line that the truth was not told or known. If you breed a pure and known YBBB male with a female, you will not get random...
