    Parasite ID???

What magnification was this taken at? (10x, 40x?) Without knowing that I'd say coccidia. They can be found multinucleated with 3-4 nuclei present, somewhat dependent at the angle the oocyst is observed at.

    Extremly worried!

hang in there ... my cham had four broken legs, one in a sling as well ... and had to wear them for months. He pulled through quite well actually. could it be that one of the bandages was putting funny pressure on his leg? Also if he has some nerve damage from his breaks maybe that could...

to treat or not to treat?

The problem with (facial) abcesses is that they can travel ... and end up in nasal cavities, the ears and even brain. Basically anywhere that there is open space. While I'm not extensively familiar with chameleon facial bone structure, I've seen rabbits who have had just this happen and...

    How much do they drink?

Roguekiller, does your cham really drink 60 ml of water a day? How big is he?? Hermie can't even handle 6 ml without turning into an edema balloon bc it's too much for him. Holy cow. Jam

    Parasites and showers

Parasites can be very tricky and hardy little suckers. I work with some parasite eggs that can withstand 100% bleach for almost an hour and still go on to hatch. We fix fecal samples in 10% formaldehyde and store them in a refrigerator ... when we pull them out to teach the vet students with...

Always have to hit a problem:(

Hi Chameleonneeds, Did you fix the temps in your cage as well? Good for you, for getting the screen cage ... your cham will thank you!:) Sometimes, when I am struggling with temps in my chams cage I will add a heat bulb with his regular light bulb over teh same basking spot and that usually...

    ! ! MBD ! ! Help

Jeremy, You should be fine calcium wise with the injections from your vet. It's a super high dose to get him on the right track again and then if I remember correctly you are getting the liquid calcium stuff which will make things fine as well. I don't have a real good dusting schedule down...

    Veiled wants out

shoot, my cham figured out how to work the zipper on his screened in enclosure so that he could escape when i wasn't around. Seriously. Everyday I would come home from work and have to go find hermie ... I think that some just enjoy it. Hermie doesn't particularly enjoy ME but he...

    ! ! MBD ! ! Help

I felt guilty as well ... but ... bottom line was I couldn't change it and all I could do was work to fix it and make his life as good as possible. Get some sleep .... you wont be able to take care of him if you wear yourself down! Is he still eating and drinking?

    Update on "hermie"

A little while ago i posted about my male veiled hermie wtih kidney problems. We just had our recheck appointment today. The goodnews is that clinically he is doing better: eating and drinking on his own and active. At home his coloring is a little better ... but when he went to the vets he...

    ! ! MBD ! ! Help

I'm glad that he has no breaks and that it sounds like you are on a road to recovery. Just be careful about the temperatures in his new home ... I had multiple temperature gages set up to monitor hermies because he could no longer travel "up and down" only side to side and I was worried...

    ! ! MBD ! ! Help

When you don't have an expert herp vet in the area sometimes you can do with a vet who is willing to and interested in helping. When Hermie has been sick our local emergency vet did not see herps ... but the emergency vet 2.5 hours away did. (a lot of vets in our area aren't open after...

    ! ! MBD ! ! Help

These are MY personal Experiences with MBD (My cham broke all four of his legs and is still hear to tell ... er... hiss about it). (1) Get him to a vet ... and get an xray done. See how bad the damage is. You'll be able to get an idea of how good or bad his bone density is. Additionally, if...

How to 'encourage' my vieled chameleon to leave his cage

I have a veiled and used to have a long stick that I would use. I would put it in his cage at an appealing spot (close to him, yet just a little bit higher so that he would be enticed to "step up" onto it). and once he got on I would slowly pull it out and then put him somewhere. My cham...

    Sick male veiled Cham

Thank you so much for all of your replies. Per 1 cup of veggies i added 4-5 flakes of fish food ... so I am not sure if that was too much but I am going to cut it out completely. Does anyone have a good gut loading recipe that they would recommend? When i got home today Herm was looking...

    Sick male veiled Cham

Cage Info: Cage Type - Screened 18"x18"x36" Lighting - Reptisun UVB (changed every 4 mo) and Reptisun heat bulb. He's on a 13on/11off cycle (due to my work schedule) Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Highest = 95, lowest = 70. Measured with...

    Exoterra Fogger

I was wondering if anyone has used one of these and what their experiences are? I live in Michigan and am having a HORRIBLE time keeping Hermie's cage even close to being humid enough. I bought one of these foggers, and started it out on the bottom of his cage (a fully screened cage) and was...

    FYI Fecal's

The problem with Zinc Sulfate is that it's technically a heavy metal and SHOULD be picked up by a biohazardous waste company, not just dumped down your drain/in the trash. What works equally as well ... and is VERY cheap, easy to make and is NOT hazardous is a saturated sucrose (i.e. table...

    What are your chameleons names?

my old veiled female was "corey the chameleon". my current veiled male is Herman or hermie. The vet likes to call him "hissy hermie" bc he likes to hiss a lot. He's not exactly social.
