How did your Vet take culture sample without doing a transtracheal wash? I have yet to find one that has another method of taking a sample for a culture. The reason I ask is because I was quoted over $700 for the transtracheal wash.
I would keep an eye on it if I were you. The only thing a vet can do is take a guess and prescribe an antibiotic. Which my not help for one. And could cause unnecessary stress to your chameleon. The only accurate way to be sure is to do a tanstracheal wash to do a culture and sensetivity test to...
I just wanted to warn people that the hand pumps have petroleum jelly in the pump to lubricate it. I use the exact pump shown in the picture and it took me hours to wash out the petroleum jelly.
Since petroleum jelly and mineral oil (its liquid equivalent) attach to your cells and are not...
How long has it been since he has pooped? My chameleon has gone as long as two weeks without a poop. I find if I gently masage his tummy with my fingers I will get a poop within a few days. I have also used pedialyte to hydtrate to help get things flowing as keeping your chameleon hydrated...
Sounds more like a hiss. If it were respiratory he would make the hiss sound even when you aren't touching him. without filling out the how to ask for help I am just guessing as I don't know enough about your cage and chameleon. When your Chameleons mouth is open is there exctra mucus? bubbly...
That's awesum that you teach veterinary. Be as descriptive as you like, The more you tell us the more we get to learn. Glad to have you on the forums. :D
Thank you for your input. And I wish it was only $450.00. not sure why the original quote was $450.00, its now over $700.00. Anyways the chameleon has made it for 3 mons with the issue I don't think the infection is still there as he is active, and eating + gaining weight. :D
Hmmm. I cant explain how your chameleon got burned then. I suspect that the casque looks funny because of the burn. im 100% sure 90F wont cause that type of burn. maybe your thermometer isn't reading the temperature right.
90F wont burn a chameleon like that. That's the basking temp I use for my Panther who isn't burned. He must have gotten to close to the bulb. Is the basking light in your tank?
It almost sounds like your cage is by a window. Which might be whats causing the cage to be so warm. Instead of turning off your basking light, move the cage away from the window for a few reasons. Your Chameleon isn't getting any UVB from the sun as the UVB rays cant pass through the glass from...
To combat I would clean the container more often and poke allot of holes. It's probably to moist in there and air flow might help. Also I wouldn't feed anything to my chameleon that has had potentially come in contact with mold.
I would avoid anything that has bright colors like that, till I at least find out what it is for sure, and if it's toxic. Plus if it has a horrible smell its not going to be edible.
