I good light is the reptisun 5.0 linear tube. The eye being "bugged" out may be normal. If it looks all bulgy for a little bit, then goes back to normal...this is how they clean their eyes. This is just a guess though, as I am not totally sure what you mean.

I think the bottom of your tank is unnecessary. If that cage will be in your house there wont be enough air movement to need that bottom. I think in your house it can pose the problem of too much humidity and heat; leading to bacteria. Cool idea though.
