Invest in a temp gun that way there is no mistake. I always place something with some mass in the basking area and check repeatedly several times during the day to make sure it is safe before introducing a chameleon to its cage.

Yes .... I have successfully kept all my adult breeders with radiant heat panels instead of spot lamps. I have been using them for about 3 yrs now and they have been working fine. I use in conjunction with a thermostat of course.
