Reptiles get fungus if they are exposed to fungal spores in the area or if they are exposed to another reptile that has it. Prevention is keeping the area where they are kept well ventilated, not too cold and not too wet. Also being kept away from other reptiles that have fungus or could have...
That looks just like fungal lesions to me. I have a cham fighting fungal infection as we speak. You will need to get a piece of his skin sent off to be biopsied by a lab/labs when you take him in to your vet ASAP. The results will show anything your cham has(affecting his skin). When I had...
Have you ever tried tong feeding? This might be easier for you than ripping off the legs and putting them on a leaf. Grab the cricket by the back legs with the tongs and hold it in front of him.
BTW chams are divas of the reptile world. They are so picky with how they want fed and watered...
Sorry for your loss:(
Before you get another one look around on here and talk to people who have a lot of experience with chams. Do tons of research and hopefully next time things will be better, not to mention you will be prepared incase something happens. I would also not get reptiles...
I would get the substrate out of the cage before he ingests it, if he has not already. In my earlier reply I said he might be having vomiting issues because of blockage and now seeing what he is kept on I really think that this is the case. I would get him to a vet and get an x ray done to see...
Kinyonga is right about the vet doing a biopsy. You have to find out what type of fungus you are dealing with. Once a culture is grown the vet needs to see what medicine the fungus is sensitive to and then that is the medicine you give your cham. The medcines for fungal infections are very...
Jo jackson I just watched a video on monitors in Australia, I'm gonna post it in a new thread. Love the pics btw!
toddmkeller thanks! Since they are still little I keep them in a large tank, not sure how many gallons but it's bigger than a 55 gal for sure. I was told it was 90 gal but I'm...
Yeah, I saw some blues on the internet last week I wanted really, really bad but I don't have the extra cash at the moment:( They were a young pair and perfect.
Where do you live? When my green tree monitors have babies I'll have to send you one:)
I used to keep this species. Fruit flies are too small for it to eat, try small crickets instead dusted with calcium plus vitamin D3. Also use natural applesauce instead of apple pieces because it is so little. The paralysis could be from the things Syn said but can also be the result of MBD...
That's cool!
I'd give an arm and a leg for a young cbb pair of blue tree monitors and/or yellow tree monitors(V.reisingeri)! They are so expensive though! Do you like those too?
Thanks everybody!
jojackson that is so cool your ackies do it too! I've never seen it before so it really sparks my curiousity! Are your ackies a male & female pair too?
chams1 they are my favorite too, lol! You can come over anytime! These monitors are not afraid of people at all so...
