If you go to the pet store, like petco or petsmart, in the reptile section is a 10-20 dollar timer. The more expensive ones have an extra outlet but you can get 1 and use a power strip.

The temps are good. I think it's less likely to burn him then if it is in the cage. He can climb up on top of the light now or place his head on the bulb.
