    The Chameleon Virus!

I'm glad you all enjoyed the post. I had a lot of fun writing it. Chameleons truly do capture one's heart in a different way than most animals. Malama ka aina, my friends.

    Arcadia or ReptiSun??

I am extremely satisfied by the Arcadia D3 T5HO bulbs. They output a lot of light and my chameleon loves hanging around on his tree beneath them. It's one of the items I've acquired in my pursuit of the perfect husbandry of which I am the most proud. http://www.lightyourreptiles.com has a...

    Need advice/help please

Hey ejab. Welcome to the forums! Pics of your setup would be awesome. I would highly recommend removing the water bowl. If you can't remove the bowl for some reason you should cover with a screen so your chameleon can't fall in it and drown. Be sure to remove the water daily as it can become...

    Quick question!

Not intending to bash at all. Just concerned =) I don't think anyone would intentionally do something to harm their pet, especially if they're asking for help! The bubbles thing (to me) is a red flag. I'm not an expert, just mentioning what I've read after spending at least 400 hours...

    Arcadia T5 5%

Todd really is fantastic to work with. He has some of the best customer service I have ever encountered. I accidentally bought the wrong size of bulbs and put a comment in my order about it. He was kind enough to call me before filling my new order to make sure I was getting the right size...

    Quick question!

You said you can hear him blowing bubbles? I would say that's him breathing with an infected chest but only a vet can tell you for sure.

Rack system to hold two 2x2x4 cages

Whoa... no I paid $150 at samsclub. It's quite a bit overkill but I figured I don't ever want to chance this thing tipping over or breaking and when I move into a larger house I can put it in the garage to hold tools. Plus it kinda looks nice. They have black & silver versions

    Quick question!

Ah man, if you can hear him breathing it means your cham needs to go to the vet and get checked for a respiratory infection / antibiotics. If it's an infection it will not go away on its own. There is not a specific duration you should be misting, exactly... but there is a checklist: *urates...

Rack system to hold two 2x2x4 cages

I have one of these... I have all the water stuff underneath it (20 gallon reservoir) and space for 3 cages on top http://www.amazon.com/Muscle-7224PRB-72-Inch-24-Inch-Heavy/dp/B001DCISNA

    Fixture ?

You should definitely get a fixture with a reflector... you can double the amount of light that goes in your cage with one.

    Quick question!

If it's not an aggression response or respiratory infection, he's probably opening his mouth to cool off. It's called gaping. What are your temps and how are you measuring them? You know he's drinking enough based on the color of the urates in his feces. All white means he's well-hydrated. I...

    Quick question!

If he's sufficiently hydrated it should be all white. If it's slightly tinged with yellow it's not too bad but just keep an eye on him/and make sure he drinks. Do you have a dripper & how often do you mist?
  16. lausnordah

    Quick question!

Not sure if it's the lighting in the pic or if the urates are slightly yellow-orange but they should be white followed by the brown stuff that's mostly-solid and slightly moist-looking should look similar to https://www.chameleonforums.com/oh-my-he-finally-pooped-i-am-so-happy-90175/

    Misting systems and purified water

I don't really have an answer to your question -- and I would love to know how people are handling the water supply for misting myself. I can tell you that using tap water might not be a great idea, depending on what's in it. In Cincinnati we have fluoride and chlorine in our tap water, which...

55 gallon tank? How much vertical height is that? Please keep in mind that UVB does not transmit through glass, so it should be resting on top of the enclosure without anything but a screen between it, some plants, and your chameleon. I recommend taking out the water bowl. Search for...

    The Chameleon Virus!

URGENT PUBLIC HEALTH ANNOUNCEMENT CONCERNING CHAMELEON KEEPERS For over 50 years, the Chameleon Virus (CV) has been infecting individuals coming into contact with chameleons, and the number of affected worldwide has been on the rise and increasing at an alarming rate since the initial outbreak...

    Poop smell? cage advice?

What kind of drainage do you have? I have a drainage tray that I clean out with towels every week. Standing water can get very stinky. If your cage is always wet and doesn't dry out between misting then that can also cause it to smell, and is bad for your chameleon. What's your ventilation like?
