Absolute darkness is ideal but moonlight is natural light that chameleons experience. My house gets down to low 60's in winter. The temp change is actully very healthy for most chams. Mine is a veiled and it is common to have temps in the low 50s in their natural habitat.

If your girlfriend is an "experienced" breeder she must know that as a consensus a bigger enclosure is recommended for juviniel to adult Panthers and veilds. Just get the XL and be done with it. If you want the Ferrari of cages get a Dragonstrand.

I know that people have been happy with the cantina as far as getting their cham to drink goes. I ordered one and gave it a try. The pump is WAY too loud. It's actully annoyingly loud even on lowest flow rate. I didn't even install it in my enclousure. Not sure if they are all as loud as mine...
