If he/she is already a juviniel get a 4ftx2ftx2ft. They will appreciate the room to grow. If they are finding food easily and can hunt a bigger cage is a great idea.
No substrate indeed. Not necessary. Plants, as mentioned above, help greatly with humidity retention. Also, dragonstrand enclosures are excellent and well worth the price.
I have a drainage system that empties into a catch pail. I dump it out weekly and it's only a 1/4 full (4 gallon pail). Most of the mist stays on the plants and foliage. I squeegee any remaining water into the drain nightly so it won't foster any bacteria on the cage bottom.
I would recommend both. Misting systems help keep a chameleon hydrated and helps with the humidity. A dripper will also do both but provide a constant drip for chams to recognize. I've read that some chams won't utilize a dripper ever. In some cases people have to run long misting sessions to...
If I had to do it again I would go with this complete kit. $500 seems like a lot but the kit is excellent. I bought a kit from a site sponser and pretty much replaced every component because they were just "meh".
Great looking kits...
My male veiled is a grumpy young man. Ive handled him 2 times in the 7 months I've had him. Does not like it and I'm fine with that. I still love him anyway. I guess veilds get a bad rap for being aggressive. Some keepers have had many veilds who were tolerant of being handled. I believe...
The basic Mistking set up will accommodate up to 10 nozzles. It would be perfect for 2 enclosures. It's about $100+shipping. I would say that's pretty budget friendly. It's a great product with great customer service. You will only have to buy a misting system onece. Do it right the first time...
I agree 100%. My wife was not keen on a reptile in the house but now I find her watching my Chameleon. I think she likes him more than she leads on
OP: great start to a great project. Good luck with the build.
I love my mistking also. $100 plus shipping for the basic unit is a great value. Can't go wrong with any system from them. A must for reliable misting.
Wouldn't a good business practice be to let the customer who has payed for your product know why it's taking so long to ship? It's not the first time I've seen poor customer service associated with AquaZamp. The reviews for the products are very good...
Live plants are the best option over plastic/silk. Fly paper or sticky near the enclosure almost intitled eliminated the flys. I only saw them for a month or two after starting my enclosure. Good luck
I have no advise to your situation but admire your choice of names for your chams.
I'm a huge Star Wars fan myself. Are all your chams force sensitive?
During summer months the room my chameleon lives in can get quite warm. 80F+. Weather in RI has been up and down this spring. We've had some days in the high 80s and today it's 48. I don't have an AC in that room yet. 3 windows and box fans seem to be evacuating the heat at night. I also...
I got my male veiled at around 5-6 months and went right to a 2ftx2ftx4ft screen enclosure. Go big as you can. I believe smaller cages are recommended for younger chameleons because finding food is easier than in a bigger cage. Vertical space is key.
I use repashy superload sprinkled on fresh veggies and fruits. I suppose you can use it by itself but why do that when you can make it better for your chameleon. Stay away from cat/dog food and fish food. Repashy bug burger is another great product for gutloading. It's made to mix with water and...
Get the basic mistking setup for $100. It's an excellent product. The basic setup can run up to 10 nozzles I believe. It's easy to set up and program down to the second how long you want it to run. Great product. People are very happy with aquazamp too. Good luck. I've found that buying the...
