Just thinking out of the box here...any chance it was your own blood? You could of had a scratch or scab or something and bumped it on something in the cage and caused you to bleed.
Hawk Veiled Chameleon
I am selling my Veiled Cham, Hawk, and all of his things. If you want to see pics of him check out my album/threads. I am ONLY doing local pickup, so I will not be shipping him anywhere. PM me for a price and a complete list of all of his things.
I'm going to use hydro balls and the way I'm going to do it is: place a 2" layer of hydro balls on the bottom, then put screen over the hydro balls, then put a 10-12" layer of organic soil on top of the screen. Then just add the plants :)
BTW, you don't clean the balls on any regular...
Yeah you're probably right, but you can't blame people for being paranoid about which plants are safe and which aren't lol. It just makes more sense most of the time for the plants to be approved by someone so they know for sure before they just try it out themselves.
BTW, Clair sounds like...
Well I've come to realize that Olimpia knows her stuff. I don't see her knowingly putting a toxic plant into a cage with her chams, so I would rule out bromeliads in general as being safe. I think that any that are available are probably safe; bromeliads are a very varied plant species...
Bad, bad, bad...JK :p
I don't think others should make a huge deal about what you just said because chameleons will spit out things that have an odd taste to them, i.e. toxic plants most likely have an odd taste.
I would assume that they would all be ok to use, but I don't know for sure. Are you saying that there were three different species of bromeliads, or three different color bromeliads or both? I'm not too familiar with bromeliads, but I have seen others use them; Olimpia actually has a new...
I've used the 16 oz deli cups too, and I do agree that they work great. But have you ever tried them with your silkworm raising bin? I seen that thread a while back and I plan on using it with some hornworms soon. And I'm currently using it with some silks, so thanks for posting that :D
Make sure that their isn't moisture in whatever you keep them in. If there's too much moisture it will kill them. Yes they can climb when they are little, but not so much once they get a bit larger. While they're babies you will want to keep them around 80 because they're more temp sensitive...
I think that those are the funniest moments that we have with our chams. They'll shoot something and chew it a few times, and then just stare at us like this O.O
@Brandon: I wasn't aware schefflera were vining plants; I thought most rooted and stemmed out pretty big so I don't think they would work for what I'm aiming to use them for (or am I mistaking the plants you mentioned?)
Oh, I just seen where you said a "plant with leafy foliage", so I thought...
Well like all panthers/chams, he's incredible.
From the pic it looks like his bars are outlined in red but filled with blue? That could be pretty interesting :D
