Need help with gravid female veiled

She just came out of her laybin looking a lot thinner and I checked and there are eggs! I am so relieved! I'm now going to lower her temps and not feed her as much. I really don't want her to lay eggs again. How often do you supplement your chameleons? I was spraying calcium on her food every...

Need help with gravid female veiled

Thanks! I'm using coconut fiber which i add water to so it is moist enough for her to dig tunnels. so far none of her numerous tunnels are good enough for her. She must be a perfectionist! I understand now why most people keep male chams, but of course, I wouldn't exchange her for 1000 males!!

Need help with gravid female veiled

Thank you so much! I was so worried. I will leave her alone and let her get on with it. I thought that with the amount she's digging she must need to eat more, but I guess not. I think owning a chameleon is one of the most anxiety inducing things I've ever taken on!!

Need help with gravid female veiled

My female veiled is definitely gravid as she looks fat and has started digging in her lay box. Her box is a 20 gallon tank that is 12 inches deep. She started digging yesterday, and was literally digging for 10 straight hours, but has yet to lay any eggs. She is digging again today and has...

    Eva Passed this morning

Aww, I'm so sorry for your loss, but sharing your story will definitely help other keepers. I have a female veiled and have set up a lay bin for her and think I have everything correct...terrifying that this might not be enough!

Best basking and UVB light for a veiled chameleon

Thanks Tyaeda! She is very pretty!! That is great advice, I'll definitely get a dimmer and then set her up with a couple of different basking areas so she can choose whatever suits her best.

Best basking and UVB light for a veiled chameleon

my ambient temp is about 80-85 degrees, but she has a temp gradient all the way down to the mid 70s and her basking spot is between 90-95, but I will lower it a bit, maybe that's why she doesn't bask. I was worried it was because the light was too bright, but she loves sitting in the sun in the...

    How often do we recomend....?

I really can't understand breeders who bring new beings into the world and then don't give a toss what happens to them after money has changed hands. I'm new to chameleons, but once thought about breeding bearded dragons, but realized there really was hardly anyone out there I'd be comfortable...

Best basking and UVB light for a veiled chameleon

Thanks for your suggestions, guys! I think I will probably get a solar meter and test my lights out as I have other reptiles too, and there's so much differing opinion about these things. Carol, yes I made her a lay bin, especially as she looks a lot plumper than when I got her and that was...

Best basking and UVB light for a veiled chameleon

Hi, I was wondering what basking lights people here are using? I have a zoo med 75 watt light, but my chameleon never basks under it or even near it! I tried a blue coloured bulb in the same wattage, but she wouldn't go near that either. I use a Reptisun T5 HO 5.0 tube for UVB. Is this OK? I'd...

Question for people who free range their chameleons

Thanks so much! I'll contact him. Their website looks great, maybe I'll consult with him on my other reptiles too:)

    just a rant!!

I completely understand your frustration, Crystal. But there's so much misinformation and differing opinions out there that even if you have done a lot of research, you're bound to still have questions. Getting those questions answered by experienced keepers on a forum like this is a great way...

    What are your chameleons names?

I'm a true crime fan, so I name all my reptiles after my favourite murderers. I have one veiled chameleon, Lizzie Borden One ball python, Mary Bell Two bearded dragons, Roberta Cooper and Angelo Simpson (formerly Robert Cooper and Angela Simpson before I knew their sex) One uromastyx, Herman...

Question for people who free range their chameleons

Thanks guys! I will definitely get her a 10.0, I've looked into Arcadia and they don't seem to be available in the US?? I'd love to just have a ficus with her lamps over it and have her be free all day, but she would never stay on it, she's a real roamer and literally does laps around the...

She's a veiled chameleon about 1 year old.

Question for people who free range their chameleons

Thanks for your reply, I wouldn't be able to let her be completely free range as I have other reptiles and I think seeing a chameleon abseiling down in front of their cages may stress them out :) Today she was out for at least 2 hours and is scratching to come out again, but I at least want...

Question for people who free range their chameleons

How do you make sure that your chameleon gets enough UVB? I'd like to be able to let my chameleon roam around because she always wants out of her enclosure, but I'm worried she wouldn't get enough UVB light.
