1st Dubia have arrived!

That is a concern of mine Rob! I dont want a ton of them! But I have bearded dragons and do you know if they are ok for cresteds to eat?? I will be trying to feed Claude some of the smaller ones while I am waiting, I figure I have plenty of them!! If they get outta control I will throw some out in the snow this winter! lol If Claude wont eat them I will have to hope the next one will!

Why wouldn't they? Heck, JB and a few other crestie breeders feed only CGD and dubias.

Another thing to try with cresties is Calci/Repti/Phoenix worms. I got some to try at Petco and my crestie went nuts. o_o Aaaand, the largest worms are a good size for adult cresties.

lol I wouldn't say "man" up necessarily...yet! Lets see what happens when they aren't cute tiny cricket sized critters...I am sure I will squeal like a stuck pig the first time I have to touch an adult! God help me if it grabs onto my hand!!

I have never and don't ever plan to touch an adult! I cleaned out the bin about a week ago and didn't have to touch one. Like Suzi, I bought a long pair of tongs at a show just in case I need to go to Plan B.

I just ordered 125 small dubias with 1 adult pair. Dubias are definitely an expensive feeder for chams but I've heard how great they are nutritionally even better than crickets so I wanted to give them a try for my panther chameleon. Got a great price for them. Hopefully my chameleon will enjoy them so I can breed the dubias to save on money for future feeders.

Well, I never feed anything to anybody without making sure it is ok! I had never even heard of a dubia roach until I started on this forum! Just overly cautious with my babies:eek:...none of the breeders I got crested's from ever mentioned dubia, but I haven't bought a crestie in years!

Yeah, things have changed a bit. :p
Since dubias grow so slow and you need a lot to easily start a colony, lobster roaches would probably be a better choice for smaller chams and geckos. They average a bit bigger than an inch, and breed like crazy. You can get a group of around 200 from Mulberry Farms for 10 bucks.
