A few 'misting' related questions

So I just got my little guy yesterday and hes doing awesome. Actually ate (a lot) and drank as SOON as I put him in his home.

Some things occured to me after putting him in there ...

Those of you who use auto-misters, do you turn them off at night along with the lights? My concerns are him getting pulverized by the mist while he is sleeping, and also the temperature. I feel like the water would drop the overall temp of the enclosure too much.

I guess I feel like he doesnt need the mist at night because
A) humidity is fine (between 60-80 w/ warm mist humidifier going in the same room)
B) He wont want to drink in the middle of the night?

My second issue is that I seem to have hard water problems ... the droplets of water that build up on the leaves are starting to leave small white stains when it dries up...
My half-ass solution to that at the moment was to remove all the water from the mister and mister spray bottle and replace with water I passed through a brita filter ... I don't even know if those filters help with hard water. Is this a viable solution?

tehe yes you answered your own question.

you dont want the mister going off at night. it can cool them off to much, and like you said, they wont drink at night.

I plan on turning mine off at night because theres no basking spot where he can dry himself off at night, it will also drop the temp at night and possibly too much

Yes, turn it off at night - it'll be no use. I'm not sure if the brita filter will work, but people with automatic misters often use RO (reverse osmosis) water to prevent mineral build up.
If you wipe the leaves with dilute vinegar you'll remove the stains.

Ahhh ok, I have seen those before while reading about random chameleon related things. Hopefully they arent too costly.

Thanks for the help :D

the actual RO system is costly. like several hundred dollars.

Awwww FFFFFF ....

Well that gets rid of that option, at least for the time being -.-

I'll just buy water from the grocery store then, I think that should be alright. What do you guys think?

havent tried it yet. but thats gonna get costly too.

I think you can just get reptisafe, whcihc should remove any stuff in the water.

i just bought my deluxe mistking, but have not set it up yet.

I use the grocery store water and I have alot of chams. Its not that much $$ I only pay .29 a gallon. So i use less than .50 of water a day. Feeders cost me alot more than h2o. lol

Woah, thats outrageous. At Kroger we have the little windmill water station. I bring my own refillable gallon jugs. So i only pay .29 I looked into buying an ro system and after pricing everything I would ony be saving a few pennies per gallon by installing the system in the house.

If it's out of a vending machine make sure to check the date of the last time it was serviced. Sometimes they dont get to the machines for a couple of months after the filters should have been serviced. You could also try a local aquarium store. Theres a fish store near me that charges 25cents per gallon

Also your local culligan water if you have one is a great option too better quality water than the vending machines even though those are bad I've used my own tds meters on those and even long after service date they were still good but as a reefer I say support your local saltwater fish store as well ;)
