Hi again,

A wonderful member on the board was unable to keep his veiled so he sent him to me. There was a huge mix up at the Post Office after FedEx refused to ship person-to-person (would ship between businesses.) Anyway, the poor guy was shipped on Monday, overnight delivery, but I did not get him until Friday. I had the PO hold him so as to avoid him riding around on the truck all day and me possibly not being home to receive him. When I got him, he crawled right out and rode home on my shoulder. He ate immediately. I have not seen him really drink, but the owner states that he was a shy drinker, so drip system is being used with mistings.

He was a bright green but has been very dark ever since finishing that first meal. Is he acclimating? Stressed? I'm so concerned over what we went through with Sparkle. Cage was cleaned with chlorhexidine a week ago, all fake plants were soaked and rinsed, dried out for days before "Melon" arrived.

I assume you have reasonable foliage cover and temps, etc. So the fact he is eating is good. He will be just acclimating. 'Teenage' male Veileds seem to be a bit browner........give him time, sounds like nothing to worry about to me

Thanks, David. My thermometer had broken a few weeks back. My husband is getting a new one now as I type. I will be sure all is well in that dept. Question: I have a room that is full of various birds a few rooms away from my reptiles. You can hear the birds. I am worried that this could be stressful? Should I move him to a distant area from here?

Chams cannot hear but can feel vibration. So IMO it shouldn't be a problem. Congrats on your new fella.

I very much doubt that the bird sounds are audible to the chameleons. Too high pitched. Even my bass doesn't seem to stress them so again, I wouldn't worry

OK, great. I just handfed him a mealworm that he readily accepted. Getting those basking temps now that the new thermometer is set up. Pet store was out of super worms but ordered Phoenix worms as the prior owner said that he loves his worms and dubia - guess it's time to enter into the roach world, too....

He should eat crickets readily, I fed him medium to large, usually hand fed.
