A tribute to George

I sadly had to euthanize my old man George. He's been through a lot in his time with MBD when he was a baby, getting trucked 3 hours in the car to a better home with me and then a few years later 22 hours in the car to move from Texas to Colorado, injuring his tongue so it only shot crooked, and several surgeries to remove papilloma warts. Then recently his back legs stopped working and bloodwork showed early kidney failure. When he died he also had a twist in his gut preventing him from pooping and a lung full of fluid. Here's more of his story here: https://www.chameleonforums.com/george-hospice-123478/. To be completely honest, George was a bit of a jerk! He hated people and would hiss and lunge if you opened his cage. No amount of coaxing and hand feeding and rewarding would convince him you weren't some type of evil spawn out to get him. But that's okay. He was actually my first chameleon and without him I wouldn't have found my fascination with chams and have the other wonderful chams I have today or be part of this forum. So I can't be mad at him despite all his grumbling. :) And his papillomas have triggered a collaborative effort to publish research on this condition in chameleons, which we need. So George has made a good contribution to the world. Still, his cage looks so empty...

This is the face I usually got from George - the classic "You are beneath me and don't come near me" grumpy look. :)

He was beautiful and I for one thank him for sparking your interest in Chameleons as we have all benefited from your knowledge.

Thanks George!

I am so sorry for your loss Dayna. George was such a handsome boy. You know that I have a soft spot in my heart for veileds. Thank you for giving him such great care and a wonderful life. Sleep tight little man. You will be missed.

I love the clay paw.

Dayna I am sorry you had to let George go. You will miss him, but with you being a vet, it is good he had something to leave behind in your world.
RIP George

condolences.
undoubtedly the right decision, though certainly that makes it no easier.
I love the "you're beneath me" photo and the attitude he clearly displayed.

George was everything a veiled can be! Tough, grumpy, beautiful, grumpy, and so worth having in our lives! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. RIP little one. :(

I am so sorry you had to let George go. Sometimes I wish Lenny would just go on his own so I do not have to make that decision. It is hard deciding to end a life, no matter how small, but I know you did the right thing and George was blessed to have you in his life. Once again, I cannot thank you for all of your valuable time and the information you put forward to this forum. I not only thank you, but thank George. RIP

So sorry to read about your loss of George Dayna. He was such a beautiful, angry fella! I am glad he will leave a legacy and help future chams that have the same papomilla issues he dealt with.

George was quite the character, Dayna. I am sorry to hear you had to let him go. But having such a misunderstood (i.e. grumpy) personality makes the void he leaves all the bigger. RIP George.

I'm so sorry for your loss. His legacy will live on, and I love that clay print. I have no doubt that another cham in need will find it's way to you to be loved and pampered for the rest of their life.
