Accidental Anoles = Repo's Meal

Let me explain first why this little one is named Repo.

This is a gracilior that was sold to a person that WAS part of our herping group that ended up vanishing without making the payment to Janet - @jajeanpierre. Janet didn't tell me she hadn't received a payment out of fear of causing bad blood between me and the person.

To make a long story short, when I found out, I ended up driving to Oklahoma to take back this gracilior from the rotten person who tried to take her. Janet didn't want me to, but I can't stand dishonest people. Therefore, Janet refers to her as Repo. The name has stuck and that is what I call her as well.

So, the other day I was making the rounds and checking on all my chameleons. I realized when looking in at her that it appeared as if she had just swallowed something. It struck me as odd, because when my chameleons are young, I cup feed to make sure I know what they are getting. So I knew nothing was roaming in the enclosure. I came back an hour or so later and sat down near her enclosure. I realized she was actively hunting. So I looked around and couldn't see anything. I figured she must be hunting fruit flies. With all the babies I have right now, I have fruit flies everywhere.

Then I saw her shoot her tongue and bring back a green anole. Apparently, one of the plants in her cage had green anole eggs laid in it. I ended up taking the enclosure apart where I found 5 more hatchling green anoles. There is no telling how many she had eaten before I realized it.

Here are the pictures from her meal.

WOW

...and here I was thinking that only larger types of chameleons ate some meat...

For those who might be, apprehensive?, I'll point out the T-Rex ate other Dinosaurs.

Atlas has been actively, and I mean he gets his slow ass in gear, hunting in the outdoor enclosure when he sees fence lizards. I never knew a Parson to get up and just frigging move like he does when a fence lizard comes into sight.

Panacur is now on his regular schedule of things to do.

On the bright side since they hatched in cage, doesnt that guarantee parasite free? Sounds like a win win, other than the fact i raised anoles as a starter herp back in the day...

That was my first question to Joel when he sent me the pictures!

I was fairly surprised to see it too.

My melleri and oustalet's love to hunt them down. But this little girl was just as feisty. Unreal!

Atlas probably has a buffet in his new outdoor enclosure!

Me either. People can be absolutely worthless human beings.

Lesson learned: Don't be embarrassed to ask for the money up front even if the person comes with a recommendation.

It was just an ugly situation that this person--a friend of Joel's no less--put Joel in. I felt awful that Joel made a long drive to either get paid or get the animal back. Poor little Repo ended up driving on Joel's hand in his truck until he could get to a Walmart to buy something to put her in. Joel didn't even get a deli cup or a paper bag to put her in. It was just a really ugly situation that could have been avoided if I had just gotten paid before I sent her off with Joel. I blame myself for this although who expects a friend's friend to be a thief?

Yeah, this is a great lesson learned. I think I may be asking deposits on my melleri babies before selling.

It was weird walking into Walmart with a chameleon on my hand. But then again, that may have been the most normal thing to see in a Walmart!!

I just can't believe she stayed on your hand and didn't bail.
