acne tips?

soo, ive been using noxema and it seems to have worked a little, exept for the intense breakout i had lastweek -.- and i also tanned for the first time yesterday at the gym i have a membership at. was supposed to be in for 5 minutes, think the lady set the machine for ten, and my face is now burnt -.- which will help in the long run i suppose, but it hurts and i look rediculous right now...

I am sorry you have to deal with this problem. The great news is that in most cases it can and will go away. However, I have to say sun tanning isn't going to cure acne. If anything it will just camouflage the red spots. I do not believe any dermatologist in the world will recommend sun for acne. In fact, most all dermatologists will say avoid sun and use a spf of some type daily. I would think dermatologist would freak out over sun tanning in general. Acne in most cases can be reversed, sun damage is a whole different ball game. Skin cancer on your lips, nose or ears will be way worse than acne ever. I think JannB's recommendation is a good one. Many dermatologists will write a script for these 2 meds and say give it 8 weeks. I also read people giving you advice to avoid wheat and dairy. These are great tips also. All the hormones in our dairy and meat is something to consider. So diet is key!

Actually tanning helps because a lot of acne is bacteria-related, not just hormone and sebum related. Bacteria is killed just as well by the SUN and tanning beds as peroxide.

In fact if you have B.O., you can lift your armpit to the Sun for a bit and it will help lol.

It's called OZONE.

However, I know Accutane and some other acne treatments make you photosensitive, which means more prone to Sun damage, but as long as you're smart you have nothing to worry about.

People are starting to stop fearing the Sun because we are discovering how healing it can be. The areas of the world with a lot of skin cancer, have very little other cancers and heart disease. And no one ever talks about how skin cancer is the most curable of all cancers. But proper Sun exposure can cut your cancer risk by 50%

Some videos from one of my health-heroes, there is lots of other research into it you can find on your own as well.

How long do you actually stick with something? Sometimes it helps to not mess around with the products so often. One of my friends swears by toothpaste at night on problem pimples. I have the opposite problem so I've never tried it. My face is always bone dry and moisturizers make my skin burn. I haven't found one that works yet. My face will get so dry that it hurts. Particularly in the winter.

yeah that can work if you have the white toothpaste with bakeing soda and stuff in it. has to be a certain type. ^^

I get what you are saying, the sun has many beneficial properties. However, very few dermatologists will be on board with over exposure to sun and ultraviolet light as a cure to acne or a treatment. A little sun is helpful and only temporarily but skin damage from the sun is way worse. Here are a few links of Acne myths and skin cancer stats:

Skin cancer on the rise......when more people are less exposed to the Sun than ever, there are more sunscreens on the market than ever, with higher SPF than ever, in areas of the world where the Sun is bad only 6 months of the year!

Don't you find that suspicious?

You know what else has been growing at an alarming rate, along the same timeline as skin cancer rates? Chemicals in tap water.

I know in some cities I work in that never chlorinated water, some of the first common cancers that crop up are breast, lung, and skin cancers within 2 years of the city chlorinating water.

Maybe showering in jet fuel has something to do with the skin cancer rise?
You're absorbing it into your open pores, and breathing it in as gas vapors.

People have been loving the Sun for millions of years.

The Sun is more helpful than harmful, so long as you are smart about it and DON'T GET BURNED!

Question. Everything.

Epidemiological research shows there might be a relation between skin exposure to chlorinated organic substances and hypochlorite, and skin cancer.

Cancer risk of THMs concluded from various routes in descending order was: skin exposure while swimming, gastro-intestinal exposure from tap water intake, and skin exposure to tap water and gastro-intestinal exposure while swimming. Cancer risk from skin exposure while swimming was 94.18% of the total cancer risk.

Basically, my point is that the long term result of over exposure to the sun could be far worse than acne. Personally, I wouldn't want someone to believe that going to a tanning bed and burning their face and body will clear up acne. Especially if the end result could lead to skin cancer. Here are some pictures/articles to show why.

A few sun lovers who didn't wear their hats or spf. Ouch!!!!

Now that being said I totally agree, tap water is controversial stuff. All the chemicals that municipalities put in the water could not be good. Chlorine and fluoridated compounds are now being scrutinized for their bad side effects. Therefore, I'd have to agree that tap water could be a cancer risk like an over exposure to the sun. I'd also consider some sun screens and the chemicals in them as cancer culprits. These days the sky is the limit. However, I still think the evidence is stacking up on over exposure to sun and skin cancer.

BTW, Here is a book on the prevention of skin cancer. If you do not like acne you certainly will not want skin cancer later in life:

I dont know what has been posted, so Ill put in my 2 cents.

From what I know pimples, and acne is caused by clogged pores. With several thousands of pores on your skin, some have a hair folicle to pair with them. For the ones that dont, ( your face) has more space for sebum to seap out from the sebeaceus gland. Some bacteria, such as those who cant live in the presents of O2 love to live under your layer of oil ( sebum). once these pores fill with the sebum it presents a breeding ground for bacteria, which causes an infection in the specific site.

I bet washing your face has already been attempted, but i think its useful to know what causes it.

also, dont think sebum is a bad thing. Its our bodies natural conditioner/lotion keeping our scalp and skin moist. It is recomended to not wash your hair as much as most do.
