Advise a input on watering techniques

Hey, i have had a few differnent veild chameleons and i have used a fountain/waterfall . I am getting the new monsoon misting system and need to know if i should keep the fountain when i get it.

waterfalls are generally a breeding ground for nasty bacteria and such. i would take it out either way.

Thanks for letting me know guys. I did notice that the waterfall got preety dirty and it was really hard to clean. I guess ill just get that mister :)

and the reason im getting the monsoon is because I trust exo terra.

Yea, I trusted store bought brand name equipment too...my monsoon is now sitting on the back porch and upgrading it to an AquaZamp was probably the 2nd best thing I did for my Chameleon next to joining this site.

Would call it a waste of money, because its a useful product, but if you want to really get more then you paid for I'd chose aquazamp.

And as all the above said, waterfalls become sewage pits in chameleon cages. Unless you have an automatic flush draining to your toilet on a timer with that thing, I wouldnt use it

Well that kinda sucks :/ i was expecting it to be preety well built and reliable. I might still try it out but i am goin to check up on that aquazamp or what ever.

and i live in Virginia.

Well living in the US, you can pick up a "super dooper" misting system for around the same price (without paying the high shipping i had to lol). Search the forums for Aquazamp and Mistking (A forum sponsor), your money will go a whole lot further!

if i had to suggest anything i would have told u to order the MistKing system it is sooo much better and about the same price. its only about $110 which is great for the quality of the system.

i never had any problems with it, I'll admit that. The AquaZamp just has higher grade parts, it looks more professional than a it does a toy. The mist is noticeably more fine and the power is extremely noticable. Its more quiet, and it has upgradable parts.

I am actualy considering it now but the thing is they look kind of complicated compared to the monsoon. Both the mistking and the Aquazamp. And by the way is it better to feed them by putting the crikets in a dish or cup?

I can't speak for the MistKing as I've never owned one, there are plenty here who do and could explain. but I do own an AquaZamp and the difficulty of setting up is no different than the monsoon. If you can use a screw driver to mount the pump, make a small hole in screen or wood to fit a nozzle, and push in a hose. You are set.

Cup feeding is preferred for those who don't want to have to hunt crickets down at night during sleep hours, or for those who want to keep an eye on the number of crickets their chameleons eat. Also, if your chameleon is having trouble hunting crickets, for whatever reason, cup feeding makes it a lot more easier for him. Theres a few threads with some good milk jug ideas.

Dish feeding I think is normally done with worms

Yeah i allways just put the crickets in the cage and just let them find them but recently i have seen people using cups. I was just wondering if it was a better way of feeding. And thanks on theadvise about the mistting system. The aquazamp seems to be a better way to go.

not trying to hijack the thread but:
If i only have one cham and 1 enclosure to mist, would a misting system like aquazamp or mistking be overkill? the reason why i want to get one is so i can mist while im at work. :D

not overkil at all. One nozzle is perfect, especially if you need mistings while away. Work is the only reason i bought a mister. I am away from my house for 24 hours, so the misting system saves my chams life pretty much.

I just wish I had an automated cricket releasing machine so I wouldnt have to put 20 crickets in the cage in the morning and leave all day

Like the others said, I would definitely NOT recommend the waterfall. Excrement and dead feeders combined with recycling the water is a breeding ground for bacteria. You do not want you chameleon drinking that water or eating a feeder that has been drinking that water.
