Ambanja or nosy be?

I need some help with an ID. The person I purchased my females from may have made a mistake and sent me an Ambanja female and not a Nosy Be female. I cannot tell but hopefully someone here can. Here are some pics.

Sort of hard to tell with a female at that age, however I think she looks more like an Amabanja. More pictures?

From what I have read on here, it is almost impossible to tell the locale of a female without accurate records from the breeder/previous owner. That is why so many ppl are against crossed panthers for fear of the females get mixed up/sold off as pure.

On a side note, she looks very dehydrated - I would worry about that more at the moment than what she is!

I got her right in the AM. She just had a big drink after those pics. Here are some more.

The previous owner did not do such a great job with her. She needs to be fattened up, she's all skin and bone. Glad you're giving her lots and lots of water. She will need it. You cannot tell the locales of females really unless you mate them and even then you might not be able to tell the locale. I wouldn't breed her though, she'll make a nice pet.

lol this always cracks me up the can you tell me what local my female is.. there isnt any way to tell a females local unless you prove her out ive seen some say theres this trait an that one but they are the same.

She's 6 months old from what I was told. I don't have a gram scale yet but I will later today and have her weighed.

And for all we know she could be both...lol. She could be a whole slew of things:confused:
All we really know from the pictures is she is female and in bad shape.

No actually a guy in FL bought him. He has what sounds like his own little free range thing going on in his backyard. Probably the best environment for him LOL

yea I ended up picking up some carpet chameleons and an ambilobe male since I didnt have any ambanja females ready. Your guy looked good though. Who imported him?

I got him at the White Plains NY show. I have the guys card somewhere here but I don't know his name off the top of my head. I also ended up picking up 2 more males from Chuck G. of Heroic. One of Todnedo's Ambanjas and Nightcrawler. Not sure now if I needed them both LOL

Agreed, with what you have said here, and others have said. While there are average variations in traits between locales, and they grow more pronounced the more distant the Locales, one cannot possibly tell with any certainty, especially with Locales as geopraphically near as Nosy Be and Ambanja. Unless you produced her, and kept her accurately labeled throughout her growth, the only way to tell will be by breeding, and then hoping the offspring are as expected.

Here's an update. Since yesterday she has eaten 7 crickets, 4 dubias and drank when I saw her at least 4 times. I'm going to check at the vet to see if its a parasite. She has always eaten regularly and is the first at the screen for misting so her condition is odd. Oh and she has been doing nothing but sunning.

not lookin too good..my first thoughts where holy crap shes dehydraited as hell..sunken in eyes , no fat pockets on the top of the head...she is or was close to death..i would be giving her showers to rehydraite (do you know the method??)

put her on a plant and if you have a removable shower head, aim it at the wallso it bounces off the wall onto the plant...use luke warm water and do this for about 30 minutes...you should see her start to drink a lot...do this when she is dehydrated, shedding, and also it helps if she hasnt pooped in a while
