Angelfish!

My Angelfish decided to lay eggs yesterday. They're in a 37 gallon "community" tank. They're guarding their spawn viciously. They should hatch tomorrow or the day after. Most likely they won't survive the mouths of the other inhabitants. The pair of Angels are the only pair in the tank. Have any of you had experience with Angelfish breeding in a community tank? I'm torn between just letting nature take its role and going out and buying a small tank for the fry. I am so limited on space though :/
 
Don't let them die!

Buy a small talk! Save them!:)
I think is pretty special for fish to breed in a tank! Keep the little fish.. Please?;-)
 
agreed. small tank. our angel fish wouldnt breed no matter what :( so i say raise em up. how many eggs are there? if you get them big enough you could always sell them to friends and such and make money on the happy accident
 
Ok I'll get to the store to find a small tank for the babies. The eggs haven't hatched yet but they're fertile for sure. There are only 6 out of about 300 I would say that are infertile (they've turned white)....the parents are still fanning them and doing such a great job keeping the other fish away. I think they'll hatch tomorrow...I will keep everyone updated.
 
Good luck, but i feel they will all be predated on by other tank mates. Once they are free-swimming they will be hard for the parents to defend. What do the parents spawn on in the tank? Also, what other tank mates are in the tank and how large is the tank?
 
they also make plastic dividers that you can get and just divide the other fish to one side of the tank and the angels to the other.:)

The tank is a 37 gallon Eclipse, it has a dwarf rainbowfish (all his schoal died and he's the lonesome fella), a pearl gourami (mean MFer lol), 6 neons, 4 rasboras, a few corys and a few otos.

I went ahead and bought a smaller tank that I'm setting up for the fry. I'll take some pics of the parents and post them later.The parents laid on a leaf of a plant. They're still doing a great job fanning them.

James I would get the divider but I think the separate tank is an even more ideal solution!

The Babies Hatched!!!!

The babies hatched! Wow it was a CLOSE call removing them. The parents look devastated though. They were doing such a great job picking the wigglers off the leaf and transporting them to another leaf. The other fish looked hungry though! Here's a pic of the parents and one of SOME of the wigglers, there are a lot more on another leaf.

Just wanted to update anyone who was interested on what's going on. The fry are doing GREAT, they're 9 days old now, and free swimming active little ones. They're eating freshly hatched baby brine shrimp. I'll take a pic soon. Thanks for all of you who convinced me to save them :)
 
I will post pictures soon. I had a rapid die off today :(. They're 11 days old and I would say at least 25% died....I dunno what happened...maybe they wen't too long without food? I had a long work day today. :mad:
 
Sorry to hear about your die off. Those adults look very nice. Great now I need to get some angelfish.

Our fry are pretty much the same age. I did a big water change (got the water from the main tank so it was already cycled). I took out all the dead babies and the rest look nice and plump. I can already start seeing which ones will have more white and which will have more black. I hope that I get at least some that will survive. These guys are special, they're my first set of fry, and they hatched on the day that my father passed away exactly 1 year ago :(.
 
Just an FYI, we bought a Spawn Rearing Jar from Angels Plus and let it "season" inside a community tank for about 6 weeks and that jar is the only reason, or so we think, that we actually have a succesful batch of babies. Funny enough our platy just had 30 plus live babies and we are thinking about mixing the babies together.
We tried to get info from the group to see if anyone else has tried this but we havent had any luck.
