Sorry for my posts.. This is ridiculous because I don't even own a chameleon yet lol, I can't get off this website.. Anyway, what in your opinions are the more docile, male or female chams? If I purchase a female what do I do about eggs? I was thinking of purchasing a male, but then I got to thinking about it.. I am also now leaning more toward a panther than a veiled when all along I was leaning more toward veiled

My husband completely doesn't get my new obsession...

What do you keep your insects in? I've been just starting to read about the insects.. Crickets stink, and roaches are gross lol.. How do you keep roaches from getting out? I'm not concerned about crickets getting out, but roaches? They terrify me in how quickly they can reproduce :/ I'd die if I got a roach problem from a chameleon LOL.

oh and the woman at our local pet store, she suggested that I could buy a "desert setup" for a chameleon I went there yesterday to just browse, they currently have no chams in, and Im def. going to be ordering online, but I was in shock she'd suggest the desert setup for snakes, etc. :/ I wonder how many chameleons out there die from not eough knowledge?

My advice for you would be pick your species and then find a reputable breeder. Post your setup on here too so people can give you any tips if needed.

I've been a chameleon mommy for 5 days now and I've learned alot already. I thing I can tell you for sure is that you dont need a desert habitat! Our crickets right now are ing a *shoebox* plactic box but are going to be moved to your 10g possible today. Right now my female is in a glass terrarium (when we bought it we didnt know that they SHOULD be in a screen cage) but she's very happy in there. I cleaned it up a little last night and she had her normal colors, like she didnt care. Our male just got transferred to a screen cage last night and IDK if he likes it yet or not. He's still his normal colors and not stressed so thats a good thing. Roaches... IDK if I could keep roaches. Worms and crickets dont bother me though. But everyone on here is right, can't have just one! I've already looked into getting another one lol

Hi there friend! I would never sway anyone from a panther or a veiled. It just depends on your own preference. However, if you are basing your choice on ease of care, then I would suggest a veiled. They are a very hearty choice for first time owners. If you are basing your decision on coloring then I would go with a male.
In my experience, I have not seen any difference between male, female, panther, or veiled being more or less aggressive. It just depends on the animal.
Females will need a laying bin. For me, a rubbermaid 8qt trash basket works well. It is narrow enough to fit next to the plant and side of the cage. It is also plenty deep enough. Check around for other suggestions and use what works for you. I like to use half play sand and half organic soil mixed well and kept moist, not too wet or dry, for her to lay in.
As far as a crix or roach bin, I use the blue 22 gallon rubermaid container or smaller depending on how many crix or roaches you plan to keep. Cut a large hole around the perimeter of the lid. Then, with a hot glue gun, glue a screen ontop of the lid. The insects need lots of ventilation. I haven't had experience with any roaches other than Dubia. They cannot jump, fly, bite, or climb smooth surfaces. Not sure about any other roaches.
Humidity can be increased by using live plants and frequent watering.

too many unfortunately! Stay away from the petstores. Often times their chams are ill already when you get them due to their lack of knowledge. Buy from one of our site sponsors. You cannot go wrong! Don't feel shy about asking too many questions. That is how you will learn and educate yourself. We are all happy to help!
