Ok so i bought a 1000 crickets from LLL last week. I keep them in a Rubbermaid tub with egg crates and crkiet feed (feed and veggies) and water dish meant for crickets. i clean the cage once a week. i keep them outside due to the smell and the space. they are under a porch and yesterday my whole tube was infested with ants. i tried to save some but only saved like 100. but i moved them to the garage and they died off from the heat. so how can i keep the ants out without risking the health of my chams. any addvice will help greatly. thank you-:confused:Noe

Put your cricket tub inside one of those cheap kids baby pools.

Fill with water.

Ant proof! (assuming it doesn't touch the sides)

Crickets will not smell if you do it right.

Keeping them outdoors, you're asking for ants. Ants love you now that they know you have crickets.

I keep crickets in tubs inside our guesthouse and they do not smell. I've been doing this since mid May and they just don't smell at all.

Here's what I do:

I use deep large plastictubs. No lids. I have air circulating in the room. Heat emitters are over the crickets to keep them eating and growing. Food is only a mixture of cricket crack and added grains pulverized in a food processor. Water is provided by water crystals and when they dry out or get dirty, it gets thrown out.

Everything is kept clean but I don't think I clean the tubs weekly. It's not necessary. They are very clean. All I do during the week is refill their food and water. I suggest you keep food dry. Gutload before feeding off to chameleons. No need to feed them that wet stuff all the time. I think the smell is what you are feeding them and if it kills the crickets, then they will rot.

thanks

thanks guys for your comments. i have no where to place them inside so i placed my tun into a another tub that was slightly larger and filled the bigger one with water. its working so far so thanks for the idea.
